That being said, there are still quite a few fans out there of the action-comedy, and one of the franchise’s co-writers, Paul Wernick, has recently gone on social media to share some never-before-seen information about the original “Zombieland” that would have forever altered one of the film’s best bits.

– Bad news comes in threes, and there’s been plenty of it the last few days. Firstly, as we’re sure you’ve seen elsewhere, comes the sad death of Patrick Swayze, aged 57. The star of “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost” passed away Monday at home, after fighting pancreatic cancer for the last 18 months. His last role was in the A&E series “The Beast” earlier in the year, filmed after his diagnosis. Chris Hewitt over at Empire has paid tribute better than we ever could.

There’s something about how seriously Jessica Biel and Access Hollywood take this behind-the-scenes look at “Powder Blue,” her upcoming B-movie stripper film that’s apparently so bad it’s going straight to DVD that it cracks us up. You’d think she’s been taught by Stella Adler and gone in deep underground cover to research the role or something. Director Timothy Linh Bui‘s CV doesn’t inspire much confidence, nor does his penchant for always hiring Patrick Swayze in a major lead role, so it’s no big wonder this thing will bypass theaters.

Slim pickings this week on the DVD shelves, as January usually is a DVD as well as a theatrical dumping ground. Our advice is to look to the older stuff, as Criterion is releasing “El Norte,” the tale of two Guatemalan peasant children who run away to Los Angeles which was the first independent film to be nominated for a Best Screenplay Oscar. For those less-demanding viewers looking for something older, “Ghost” has been re-released in a two-disc Collector’s Edition so you can trick yourself into thinking the sadly ill Patrick Swayze has any sort of cinematic legacy.
