They just can’t stop with the omnibus films set in one city can they?

The German capital will undergo the “Paris Je T’Aime” and “New York, I Love You,” treatment for the upcoming “Love Berlin,” Variety reports. The project will not technically be a part of the former two films’ “Cities of Love” series that was produced by Emmanuel Benbihy, though it does have the executive producers of the disappointing ‘New York’ edition behind it.

Anthology films. Why are they littered with talent, usually the greatest directors of that particular time, but still generally come out empty or with middling results at best? Part Two of our look at omnibus films continues. Part one is here.

“Paris, je t’aime”
The gist: “Paris, je t’aime” was a warm, unwieldy collection of short films about the City of Light by 21 directors, each segment roughly broken down to a coincide with Paris’ administrative districts.

After being disappointed by “New York, I Love You,” yet another uneven, inconsistent portmanteau film filled with great talent yet middling results, we got to wondering: what is it about anthology pictures that always manages to almost always deliver inconsistent, uneven and forgettable payoffs. The concept is one that is admittedly fascinating (otherwise we wouldn’t be here) and always attracts us — taking the word’s greatest filmmakers of the time and placing them together with a theme of short vignettes.

In an interview with the NY Times, on the eve of the release of “New York, I Love You” (which is predictably mediocre like most omnibus films) producer Emmanuel Benbihy has revealed that anthology projects set in Shanghai, Rio de Janiero and Jerusalem are already in the works. According to /Film, “Shanghai, I Love You” will be up next to coincide with the 2010 World Expo, with Jerusalem to follow in 2011 or 2012. Over at the Hollywood Reporter, they elaborate a little more saying both Shanghai and Rio will be shooting next year, with Jerusalem to follow a little a later on so perhaps that info is a little out of date now.

Tuesday night we caught new anthology film “Tôkyô!”, composed of three thirty-minute segments directed by Michel Gondry, Bong Joon-Ho and Leos Carax. The prospect of the film is pretty loaded. After all, Gondry and Joon-Ho are responsible for two of the most exciting pomo hipster and monster films of the last few years (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “The Host,” y’all) and Leos Carax hasn’t made a film since 1999’s “Pola X” (which Scott Walker scored).

A Variety report from Cannes has one of the first reviews of “Tokyo!” – the three-tiered vignette film featuring directors Michel Gondry, Joon-ho Bong and Leos Carax (his first film since 1999’s “Pola X,” a movie scored by the great Scott Walker).

The review says the film is “uneven, but enjoyable and likens it to a “nastier Eastern sibling to ‘Paris, Je T’aime,’ ” (another vignettes film released last year).

“First and arguably best of the bunch is Gondry’s deviously titled “Interior Design,” which opens on a dark and stormy night as young, self-deluded aspiring filmmaker Akira (Ryo Kase) and his supportive but directionless g.f.

The film,”Paris Je T’aime” features every known director and actor in the movie industry. Ok, not actually, but sort of. The collection of love-letter vignettes about and in an around the city of lights was originally based around the 20 municipal boroughs of Paris (arrondissements) – one short film per borough – however, two of the shorts could not be properly integrated into the film, so the final film has 18 shorts.
