Paramount Vantage has put out a casting call for “The Sopranos” creator David Chase’s rock ‘n roll drama that is set to shoot later this year.

As we previously reported, the film, details of which are being kept under wraps, is a “music-driven coming-of-age saga” set in the 1960s. However, looking over the casting call below, it appears Chase isn’t necessarily gunning for hot young stars, and is taking musical talent over acting experience:

Seeking three males 17-22 years old for the lead roles in a new Paramount Vantage feature film, shooting Fall 2010.

Announced all the way back in January of 2009, David Chase’s mysterious rock ‘n roll drama is moving closer to going into actual production.

Deadline “exclusively” reports (even though Chase blabbed about the project to EW over a year ago) that the “Sopranos” creator is writing a “music-driven coming-of-age saga” set in the 1960s, which is more or less what we knew already. What they have confirmed however, is that Chase is eyeing a late summer or early fall shoot date.

CNN has a new trailer for Michael Moore’s forthcoming economy documentary, “Capitalism: A Love Story,” which, as we noted last week, now comes with an updated September 23 release date (perhaps they didn’t want to face off against Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” which they were up against when the date was October 2).

“It’s a crime story,” Moore told EW in their fall preview issue (again, not online yet). “But it’s also a war story — about class warfare.

Throughout this article: your very first look at “The Marc Pease Experience.” And now the bad news…

Paramount has been very public about its decision to shift any and all emphasis away from middle-to-small-range films and focus solely on big budget monoliths that nobody can understand, like this month’s iffy “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” and last month’s blockbuster “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” One of the causalities of this was the loss of the wonderful Paramount Vantage arm of Paramount, which just two years ago co-produced two Academy Award nominees for Best Picture — “No Country for Old Men” and “There Will Be Blood.”

While Paramount Vantage was supposedly “absorbed” by Paramount and turned into a production wing, well, that hasn’t really happened.

Or It’s Hard Out There For Film Pimps; The Sky Continues To Fall
Are you as depressed as we are? [ed. Or I am?] The entertainment media landscape continues to shrink and every facet of it surely affects us, directly or indirectly. All of it is bad for the movie business and therefore movie lovers.

Earlier this week Paramount had another major shake up, closed down their NY Lit office that scouted for good books and properties to adapt, finally putting the nail in the coffin of the excellent Paramount Vantage (RIP, seriously and to all their staff, they released some great films including, “No Country For Old Men,” and “There Will Be Blood”).

Ok, there’s not a lot to this one and we’re slightly puzzled that this is the first way Michael Moore steps out with his new, still untitled financial meltdown documentary, but we suppose it does the job of getting the word out there. But no footage from the actual film?

Details on the film has been fluid and it seems to be an ever-evolving process. At first the “sequel” seemed to focus on foreign policy, but then changed gears midway and started to look at economy around the time the financial crisis started last fall.

Back in March it was reported that nu-auteur of the dark and twisted mien, David Fincher, would be one of the directors involved in remaking the animated hesher classic, “Heavy Metal.” In fact, he was spearheading the project.

The original animated “Heavy Metal” in 1981 became quite the cult-film boasting a lot of the similarly garish airbrushed art hosted on the side of many a van in the late ’70s. It also brandished much of the near soft-core porn, erotica and violence that made the magazine so popular with adolescent boys of the ’70s and ’80s fond of science-fiction and masturbation (the hesher-heavy rock soundtrack that featured Dio-era Sabbath, Sammy Hagar, Nazareth, Blue Oyster Cult, Grand Funk Railroad and many other).

The bad news for smaller studio imprints keeps piling up. Paramount Vantage, the artier, boutique arm of Paramount pictures is being absorbed by the larger studio including all areas of marketing, distribution and physical production. While only three people will be laid off (it’s a small wing), the consolidation speaks to a larger and growing trend of major film studios cutting back on spending and downsizing their indie tentacles (what so now it’s all blockbusters from here in?
