Is it possible we have a snub or even two in the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series category? The Ladies may be searching high and low for two nominees to round out the field, but the gentlemen face a somewhat more competitive race. And that’s a big emphasis on “somewhat.” One thing is for sure, last year’s winner, Jeremy Allen White, will absolutely be nominated again and is once again the frontrunner for his performance in season two of “The Bear.” Comedy legend Martin Short should also earn his third nod for “Only Murders in the Building.” Beyond those two actors, however, things may or may not get interesting.

Is Jason Sudekis going to pull of a triple crown? The “Ted Lasso” co-creator won the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy in 2021 and 2022 and is gunning for a third win for the Apple TV+ breakout’s final season. The last time any actor pulled off three wins in a row was Michael J. Fox, who won between 1986 and 1988 for “Family Ties.” Suekis, who also has two other Emmys in the Comedy Series category, is absolutely going to be nominated, but he has a ton of competition for the win.

Here’s the thing about the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. This is pretty much Jason Sudeikis‘ to lose. The “Ted Lasso” star already won a SAG Award and Golden Globe for his performance and that’s just on the acting side. His work has also landed him WGA Award and a PGA Award that would have likely been his if “Schitt’s Creek” hadn’t qualified for one more year.

The Emmys have some real drama on the line when it comes to Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Bill Hader of “Barry” repeated last year, but that HBO series has been delayed due to production being suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. That leaves a window for “Schitt’s Creek’s” Eugene Levy (a previous winner only in the writing category), “Ramy’s” Ramy Youssef, and, maybe, “The Kominsky Method’s” Michael Douglas thanks to the fact more people have watched the latter thanks to Netflix.
