Filmmaker Carol Morley’s upcoming film “Out of Blue” isn’t your typical crime thriller. Sure, there’s a detective (this time, played by the always-incredible Patricia Clarkson) on the hunt for a killer, but this film has a lot more on its mind, as it delves into existential questions about the nature of our universe. And because of that, “Out of Blue” needed a score from a composer that is capable of capturing that uniqueness with music.

Patricia Clarkson is having quite the year. Recently she won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her terrific turn as Amy Adams‘ sinister mother on HBO‘s “Sharp Objects,” beating out Penélope Cruz, Thandie Newton and more. She also won the recent Critics Choice Award for that role and was also nominated by the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Patricia Clarkson is one of the most underrated actresses in the world. However, she takes center stage in the new film “Out of Blue,” and it sure does look like a doozy of a detective film.

In the trailer for “Out of Blue,” we meet Clarkson’s detective character that is investigating the murder of a young professor that has ties to a prominent local family. However, as she does her detecting, Clarkson comes across a variety of strange folks and a lecture given by the professor about the nature of the universe.
