Surrounded by his many leather-bound books in his apartment that smells of resplendent rich mahogany, thespian Will Ferrell contemplates the universe and therefore exemplifies the acting cliche: to be or not to be. Ultimately, the question is moot: Ferrell just is. From his cameo in “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery,” to this week’s “The Other Guys,” Ferrell doesn’t merely act; like Tom Hardy in “Inception,” he embodies his characters, taking the legacy of Konstantin Stanislavski, Lee Strasberg and Marlon Brando and bringing it to its ultimate conclusion.

‘The Hangover’ Soundtrack Features Phil Collins, Danzig, The Cramps Plus Songs Sung By Zach Galifianakis & Ed Helms

It’s like soundtrack day today. Also coming out June 23, the day the “Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen” soundtrack hits is the soundtrack for the Todd Phillips bachelor party Vegas comedy, “The Hangover” starring Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis (we seriously cannot wait to see it).

The soundtrack features Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight” (of course, it’s in the trailer), plus what is likely hilarious and ironic use of songs by The Cramps, Danzig (!!), El Vez, The Donnas (ok, probably less ironic there).

Todd Phillips Is Most Certainly Back: 2nd ‘Hangover’ Trailer Keeps Building Faith

Finally a good quality embed of the second trailer to “The Hangover.” It’s not radically different from what we’ve already seen, besides a first look at Heather Graham, but Todd Phillips’ (2003’s “Old School” is a pièce de résistance of aughts comedy) new comedy looks fantastically funny.

As we’ve written about a lot, Phillips seemed to have lost his way after “Road Trip” and “Old School” (“Starsky & Hutch,” “School for Scoundrels” were decidely ungood), but he looks like he’s returning to form with this comedy which boasts a stellar cast.

People think we’re too serious and wound too tight; we don’t enjoy things or don’t laugh. Sorry, we just have standards. Case in point: when Todd Phillips is on point, he elevates comedy to an artform that is peerless.

Phillips used to be the best comedy director on the planet (“Old School” is a masterpiece, frankly) and then he ran into troubles (“Starsky & Hutch,” “School for Scoundrels”), but he looks like he’s returning to former glory with “The Hangover,” a comedy which stars Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper (“Wedding Crashers”) as three best friends at a wild Las Vegas bachelor party who lose the groom just hours before his wedding.

Will ‘Hangover’ Finally Return Todd Phillips To The Comedy Director Throne He Deserves?

The Playlist is often regarded as stuffy dilettante esthetes masquerading in our smoking jackets and noses turned up at low culture. And while this fact and conceit is essentially true, we do love us some well-made low-art that transcends the gutter of haha irony. But this actually doesn’t apply to Todd Phillips and his “Citizen Kane” of modern comedies, “Old School.” It’s a pitch-perfect film in every manner possible and we will defend it until end days (though it clearly needs no defense, it’s amazing).

Jack Black Drops Out Of Todd Phillips’ ‘Man-Witch’

Poor Todd Phillips can’t catch a break. While his name will always be cemented in the annals of cinematic history for the comedic genius that was “Old School,” and penning “Borat,” his luck has vacillated ever since writing and directing Ferrell, Vaughn and Wilson in that comedy classic. (and much of that has been by his own design).

Jack Black has just dropped out of his upcoming supernatural comedy project, “Man Witch” which chronicles a man who discovers he’s a witch and then heads off to teach at a female witch school (Phillips is set to produce and to likely direct as well).
