If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times—Steven Soderbergh is a filmmaker that consistently surprises us. Whether that’s with the use of new technology, a unique filmmaking technique, a new medium, or just a film idea out of left field, Soderbergh never rests on his laurels and is always good for a zig when you think he might zag. And though it seems impossible on paper, it appears the filmmaker is considering yet another film in his ‘Ocean’s’ franchise.

Paramount To Gamble On Leonardo DiCaprio Online Casino Film

A day after news broke that Paramount could potentially merge with another studio, due to financial issues and shareholder mistrust, Leonardo DiCaprio has been attached to star and produce in a picture about online casinos in Costa Rica for the Viacom-based studio. Is this announcement convenient timing to assure some people that Paramount can still entice A-list talent?

DiCaprio’s Appian Way production shingle will produce and Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the writers behind the underrated poker film, “Rounders” (with Matt Damon and Ed Norton) will write.

Steven Soderbergh is the jack of all trades and yet master of them all. The chameleon filmmaker is promiscuous and omnivorous for any genre. He’s done the lo-fi world (“Full Frontal,” “Bubble”), sci-fi (“Solaris”), whizzy entertaining crime capers (“The Ocean’s 11” franchise, “Out Of Sight”), WWII period pieces (“The Good German”), cerebral indie work (“Sex, Lies And Videotape”), stark and austere dramas (“The Limey,” “Traffic”) obdurately procedural biopics (“Che”) and plans on releasing a film on porn “The Girlfriend Experience”), a biopic of Liberace and a 3D indie-rock musical (“Cleopatra”) and a CIA whistle-blower drama (“The Informant”) within the next 24 months (‘Girlfriend and ‘Informant’ should both bow this year).

Soderbergh: No Bernie Mac, No ‘Ocean’s Fourteen’

Wait, we thought the the Steven Soderbergh directed “Ocean”s franchise was dead and done regardless of who in the cast was alive or dead? Hmm, well, MTV caught up with Soderbergh and asked him what the chances of were a fourth film in the “Oceans” series. If there was little to none before consider it zero ever since Bernie Mac passed away earlier this year.

“With Bernie Mac being gone, I don’t think any of us would want to return to that,” he said, but here it is, Soderbergh said he was finished with the franchise as it was.

Ocean’s 13 Tops Box Office, Eleven Soundtrack Finally

Some critics call the Ocean’s casino-heist romps desert without the meal, a tenuous soufflé, trite and sometimes downright vacuous. Whatever your thoughts on the trilogy are, the finale of the series topped the box office this weekend with a $37 million dollar getaway.

What happens when you get Brad Pitt and George Clooney in a room? EW found out all too painfully that the twosome fuck around like school kids and give an incredibly shitty and self-indulgent goof-off interview.
