In this streaming-enabled era of Peak TV, when nearly every show is impeccably made and overly long, it’s hard to stumble over good, wholesome trash. Even teen TV has leaned into prestige, with artistic, poignant shows like “13 Reasons Why” and “Sex Education” snapping up staggering viewership numbers. If you’re a millennial who, like me, raised yourself on delicious bilge like “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “Pretty Little Liars,” or “Teen Wolf,” it can be hard to adjust to this squeaky-clean world of budgetless studios and uninhibited creation.

We’re finally picking up speed after two relatively slow-paced months (although they did grace us with “Russian Doll,” which was a welcome surprise and an early contender for Best of 2019). This month’s premieres run the gamut of returning favorites, new oddities, and devastating exposés. It’s a big month for streaming services and HBO, with the latter releasing two returning comedy favorites, including the final season of “Veep.” April marks the return of “Game of Thrones” for its final season so, if you want to get a word in edgewise about any show that isn’t the HBO behemoth, now is the time to hurry and binge as many non-dragon and ice-related series as possible before the discourse is overwhelming dominated by nothing else.

Sometimes the Sundance Film Festival takes a few weeks to take shape. This year, the festival has taken off like a rocket with its announcements and has already unveiled the bulk of its lineup. Still, that said, there’s always more to come. Today, the festival unveiled works selected across the Indie Episodic, Shorts, and Special Events sections of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Highlights include new projects from filmmakers like Stephen Frears, Amy Berg and Gregg Araki’s new work with executive-producer Steven Soderbergh.

Starz just announced a new series, and judging by the talent involved, the show is shaping up to be unlike anything else on TV.

Executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, who had previously worked with Starz on “The Girlfriend Experience” and “Now Apocalypse,” was just given a 10-episode straight-to-series order from the network. Filmmaker Gregg Araki, best known for films “Kaboom” and “Mysterious Skin,” is also on board the series, where he will co-write and direct every episode.
