Matt Reeves Calls His Caped Crusader “Batman Kurt Cobain” & Cites ‘Year One’ As A Big Influence

Filmmaker Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. are obviously going for it with their new iteration of the caped crusader, called, simply, “The Batman.” For one, it’s going to be nearly three hours long, that’s confirmed and bold as hell, it’s not at all connected to the current cinematic DC Universe, and The Batman is a younger version played by Robert Pattinson.

Oren Moverman Calls His Kurt Cobain Story ‘Raw And Chaotic,’ Will Steer Clear Of Musical Biopic Conventions

While Oren Moverman is next slated to helm his James Ellroy-scribed cop drama “Rampart” starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson and Ice Cube, the director also has the previously announced Kurt Cobain biopic gestating which he was noted to be in talks to take over.

Speaking to The Guardian’s Ryan Gilbey, Moverman has discussed his planned take on the life of the Nirvana frontman and, at the same time, finally confirmed his involvement.

“It’ll be raw and chaotic, which is what Cobain’s life was like, but it’s more linear than ‘I’m Not There’; it’ll take you from A to Z.

Nirvana Fans Sigh With Relief, Robert Pattinson Will Not Play Play Kurt Cobain

Famed sparkling vampire portrayer and ruffled hair enthusiast Robert Pattinson will not be playing grunge god Kurt Cobain, debunking earlier reports by the always unreliable British tabloid The Sun. The Sun also reported Scarlett Johansson had been tapped to portray Courtney Love, so color us surprised no one called The Sun’s bluff even earlier.

Pattinson is next scheduled to appear as Edward Cullen in the next Twilight abomination, followed by a leading role in “Bel Ami”, in which he’ll play George Duroy, a sexy social climber in turn-of-the-century, 1890s Paris, who seduces his way to wealth and fame from a poor beginning.

Nirvana’s Famous ‘Live At Reading’ Concert Finally Coming To DVD Properly

’90s grunge rockers Nirvana played a rather famous show at the Reading Festival in the U.K. on August 30, 1992. The band played Boston’s “More Than A Feeling,” in cheeky response to many claims that “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was a rip-off of the ’70s rock classic and the concert is widely considered to be one of their best.

The show was recorded and meant for release, but, for whatever reason –chief one likely being Kurt Cobain’s death — the DVD never officially came out, but has been widely bootlegged over the years.

Marc Forster To Direct Kurt Cobain Biopic?

Once upon a time, someone thought a Kurt Cobain biopic about the deceased grunge star would be a good idea.

– In October 2007, script writer, David Benioff (“The 25 Hour,” “Troy,”) is hired to write the screenplay by Universal based on Charles Cross’ book, “Heavier Than Heaven. A girl named Courtney Love is executive producing.
– Days later it is rumored that James McAvoy (“Atonement,” “Wanted”) will play Kurt.
– At the end of October 2007, the documentary, “Kurt Cobain: About A Son,” is released.

Bruce Lash Covers Nirvana’s ‘Lithium’ For ‘Marley And Me’

There was going to be a “Marley And Me” soundtrack disc and now there’s not. However, there will be a score disc based on the music composed by Teddy Shaprio (“Blades of Glory”) and it comes out 12/16 via Lakeshore records.

However, we have learned that “Marley And Me” the “heartwarming comedy” that stars some bronzer, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston and a cute puppy (we’re pretty sure that was the studio pitch) does have some pop tunes in it including Bruce Lash’s breezy, cocktail cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium,” plus track by R.E.M.

Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Wrestler’ To Diss Sad-Sack Kurt Cobain; Film Might Be Full Of ’80s Hair Metal Too

We just re-read the script to Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming film “The Wrestler” (full review coming imminently). Written by Robert D. Siegel (who penned the unfortunate “The Onion” movie), it’s a strange film for Aronofsky to tackle on the outside, but once you get deeper in, you see the drama that intrigued the notable director.

It’s also quite humorous in spots. One part that’s pretty hilarious is a scene where the wrestler (played by Mickey Rourke obviously modelled after ‘8os WWF star Randy “Macho Man” Savage) laments where music has gone these days and pines for the days of ‘The Crüe,” and in his extended rant he takes dead aim at ’90s grunge sad-sack Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.

Courtney Love Sells Biopic With Nirvana Music
Ok, so the good news about the upcoming Kurt Cobain/Nirvana biopic that’s being executive-produced by Courtney Love is that it will feature the music of Nirvana. Apparently when Universal bought the rights to Charles R Cross’ Cobain biography, ‘Heavier Than Heaven,’ they purchased a combination of both the book rights and the rights to Nirvana’s music, as put together by Courtney Love, who owns the rights to the music.

‘Last King Of Scotland’ Star To Play Kurt Cobain?

Ah, rumors. Today’s juicy tidbit of possibly erroneous information is the report that James McAvoy (“The Last King of Scotland,” the upcoming “Atonement”) is one of the front runners to play Kurt Cobain in the upcoming Courtney Love-sanctioned Cobain/Nirvana biopic.

Well, according to the always dubious Dotmusic anyhow.

As reported earlier, Universal Pictures secured the rights to the biopic, the film will be based on Charles Cross’ book, “Heavier Than Heaven,” and screenwriter David Benioff – the guy who wrote “Troy” and is writing “Wolverine” – is penning the script (perfect choice, right?).

File Under Awful Ideas: Lily Allen Makes Acting Debut In Jane Austen Spoof

– Ok, we love Lily Allen, but the idea of the brit-tart making her screen acting debut in a spoof of Jane Austen’s “Pride And Prejudice” sounds like a recipe for disaster. Allen will play Lydia Bennett and Stephen Fry will play her father.[BBC]
– Nirvana’s Unplugged in New York, you might of heard of it – it was on MTV once – is finally coming to DVD November 20. The disc will feature the entirely unedited 66-minute concert, including two songs that never aired, but were on the CD (“Polly” and the Meat Puppets’ “Oh Me”) , plus previously unreleased rehearsal and documentary footage.
