Upcoming Pixar, via a French Disney/Pixar site, have posted the first look at the villain Muntz of their upcoming animated film, “Up,” in toy form. Those of us who saw the first 45 minutes of the film at NY Comic Con, only got to glimpse the character (as voiced by Christopher Plummer) as the youthful, monster-chasing adventurer. Apparently, times have changed, and all that unchecked idealism in his heart has curdled into vile treachery.

According to first hand information we received, Muntz’s motivation is something the Pixarians are very concerned about, since he starts the movie as a hero and returns as a villain.

God, ok, ok. The rest of the movie can’t be like this. We will give “Watchmen” the benefit of the doubt, but this is… ugh. It’s the prison sequence with Tyler Bates’ really bad techno-metal score. We hear it’s not all like that and the film give purposeful sonic homages and cues to the Batman series, Blade Runner, etc. etc., which is pretty cool, but this scene? Yikes. Keep it mind, it will give an erection to some people, but to any half-discerning movie fan one has to think: ok, this is a fight sequence, there’s better stuff.

Reporting on David Fincher’s proposed adaptation of the graphic novel, “Torso” is a little bit like a furious ping-pong match with so much back and forth, you’re probably getting as tired about it as we are. Anyhow, the last update was last week when producer Bill Mechanic said the project would happen even if the rights had recently lapsed.

MTV caught up with “Torso” co-creator and writer Brian Michael Bendis at NY Comic Con and he basically said, don’t hold your breath.

New York Comic Con is happening this weekend and we were onhand Saturday (January 7) for the big movie day of the festival which included sneak-peek footage of “Up,” “Watchmen,” “Terminator Salvation,” the “Friday The 13th” reboot, Alex Proyas’ “Knowing” with Nicolas Cage, and Kathryn Bigelow’s “The Hurt Locker.” It’s a lot to catch up on, but hopefully we’ll have at least one report on every movie we saw. There was also footage of “Astro Boy,” or at least a panel with images, but we didn’t stick around for it.
