Now it appears another Woodsboro resident will also be back: Courteney Cox‘s Gale Weathers. Variety reports that Cox is in talks to reprise her role for the seventh chapter in the Spyglass series, with original “Scream” creator Kevin Williamson also returning to direct.

The “Scream” franchise looks like it’s returning from the dead. Following some major controversies in the fall that led to its current cast either being fired or quitting today, Spyglass Media announced that Neve Campbell will officially return to play Sidney Prescott again in “Scream VII.” What’s more, in a move certainly designed to appease angry fans, the slasher will be directed by longtime franchise screenwriter and creator Kevin Williamson.

Ortega and Barrera, who played sisters in “Scream V” and “Scream VI,” helped revitalize the franchise, but without them, the series faces a creative problem.

“Scream” fans’ ears pricked up last year when, amid casting news about “Scream VI,” it became clear that franchise star Neve Campbell wouldn’t return for the sequel. The actress cited salary disputes with Spyglass and said it was a “very difficult decision to move on” after being the face of the “Scream” films for nearly 25 years. Some fans expected the worst after Campbell’s exit, but Radio Silence‘s sequel ended up the highest-grossing film in the series, taking in $189 million off a $35 million budget.

If a bloodthirsty maniac put a knife to my throat and forced me to name my favorite trope for women in horror, it would probably go a little something like this: I’d whip around and disarm him, sending his machete/butcher knife/rusty razor into the dusty field around us. A grand scuffle would ensue, with one or both of us getting are-they-dead-or-not knocked out a few times. I’d probably sustain some epic wound that I’d be able to fight through anyway, and with my last bit of strength, I’d rise, covered in dirt and blood, to deliver my fatal blow.
