Damn, this is why the Playlist is in desperate need of a DVD column — consider this an open call for those that are interested — somehow Hal Ashby’s excellent and underseen 1970 debut film, “The Landlord” was finally issued on DVD and no one told us about it (and we honestly don’t remember the usual suspects Jeff Wells or David Kehr writing about it, though yes, we may have missed it).

While we busy watching and reviewing the film, the soundtrack to Jonathan Demme’s “Rachel Getting Married” came out on September 30 via Lakeshore digitally (the album comes out physically on October 28).

As we noted in our review, TV On The Radio’s frontman, Tunde Adebimpe sings Neil Young’s classic, “Unknown Legend,” acapella in the movie and his version is included on the 16-song tracklist as well as two songs by Robyn Hitchcock, one of which, “Up To Our Nex,” was written originally for the film.

We just finished the script last week to Greg Mottola’s follow-up to “Superbad,” and the winning screenplay, titled “Adventureland,” is one of the best we’ve read all year.

A coming of age story set in the 1980s at an Adventureland theme park, the film is set to star Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart and Ryan Reynolds among many others as post-college graduates forced to spend a miserable summer working in a Long Island family amusement park (Bill Hader and Kirsten Wiig, play the married managers).

Michael Moore Finds Inspiration In Radiohead; Puts ‘Slacker’ Movie Online For Free

Claiming he’s been influenced by the music industry tactics of people like Radiohead and Neil Young, filmmaker Michael Moore will put his newest film, “Slacker Uprising” online for free. The doc follows the director’s 62-city tour during the 2004 election that tried to rally younger voters out of their political apathy and general laziness. The film will be available for free beginning September 23. To be fair Michael, Radiohead did give you the option to pay nothing, but also charged like $80 for the deluxe version (and In Rainbows was barely worth $8 bucks!) and all Neil did was stream the unlistenable Living With War before its proper release, but ok, fine.

TVOTR’s Sings Neil Young Acapella In Jonathan Demme’s ‘Rachel Getting Married’

“Rachel Getting Married” doesn’t premiere in North American until this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, but our pal Julien from Allocine.com is currently at the Venice Film Festival seeing many a fall film before the rest of us. He just got out of Jonathan Demme’s ‘Rachel,’ starring Anne Hathaway as a rehab, ex-drug addict who can’t get her shit together, and he tells us he wasn’t all that impressed.

We already know that TV On The Radio’s lead singer Tunde Adebimpe appears in the film as Sidney, Hathaway’s sister’s fiance, but we didn’t know he sang in the film, right?

Neil Young has said it once, he’ll say it again and again and again. During the film of his concert doc with his Crosby, Stills & Nash pals, “CSNY: Deja Vu,” in support of his political Living With War album, Red State fans wanted to rip him to shreds.

In fact, every time Young has ever discussed the experience of filming the documentary he sounds like he’s been eternally shellshocked. Discussing the film that comes out July 25 in limited release, Young stressed again that the political nature of the tour had fans irate and going for his jugular.

Crusty-fart folk-rock documentary “CSNY: Deja Vu” is coming to U.S. theaters proper this summer thanks to Lionsgate and Roadside Attraction who have picked up the flick for North American distribution.

The Crobsy Stills Nash & Young live concert documentary, aimed at creating political irritable bowel syndrome for Bush, his cronies and his supporters will hit 15 major cities in July and for that aggressively passive audience who doesn’t like vote – you can also get it at the same time on Netflix and Video on Demand (why don’t you just write-in for Ross Perot while you’re at it too?).
