After the sudden, and for many fans, tragic, departure of filmmaker Danny Boyle, the production of the upcoming ‘Bond 25,’ the last film of the franchise to feature star Daniel Craig, has gone into a bit of a freefall. Numerous directors have been named as part of the “short list,” and the release date of 2019 was pushed back a full year.

With “Bond 23” officially on hold until MGM crawl out of their financial mess, producers Parkes MacDonald and Imagenation are going to put “Quantum of Solace” and “Casino Royale” co-writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to work.

The duo have been hired to write a screenplay based on an idea by based on a concept from producers Michael Lieber and Walter Parkes. The film “takes place among the nomadic Taureg tribes of West Africa, an area rich with uranium that has become a focal point for both energy companies and terrorist states.

Michael Sheen the New Bond Villain? No, Probably Not

Some of us at The Playlist were positively overjoyed at the announcement that Peter Morgan, writer of “The Queen” and “Frost/Nixon,” would co-write of the new, as-yet-untitled James Bond movie. His co-writers remain the team of Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have written a bunch of Bond recent movies. (Morgan seems to be filling the “high-minded co-writer” slot previously held by moralistic hack Paul Haggis, who was supposedly paid $4 million for little more than script doctoring the mediocre, “Quantum of Solace.”)

Well, almost as soon as Morgan was announced as the writer, rumors began to fly, mostly jokingly, that Michael Sheen, who has starred in a number of Morgan scripts (including, well, “The Queen” and “Frost/Nixon”), would be the badguy.

‘Frost/Nixon’ Scribe Peter Morgan Tapped To Help Write New Bond Film

Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan has written things like a sexy trilogy about British Prime Minster Tony Blair (the final part,”The Special Relationship,” coming relatively soon) “Frost/Nixon”, and or c0-written things like “The Last King of Scotland,” “The Other Boleyn Girl” and of course part II of the T.Blair triptych “The Queen,” which scored him his second aforementioned Oscar nod.

It doesn’t really scream action, but he’s been hired to help write the next James Bond film, colloquially called ‘Bond 23’ because it’s the 23rd film in the ongoing, never-to-end-as-long-as-it-makes-billions McSeries.
