The HFPA and NBC have determined the airdate for the 77th Golden Globes and they haven’t been scared off by an earlier Oscars telecast date.  The 2020 Globes will take place on Sunday, Jan. 5.  That will make it the fourth telecast in a row to take place on the first Sunday after New Year’s Day.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in August that the 2020 Oscars will take place on Feb.

With the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards just around the corner, the Television Academy announced today it was renewing its rotating broadcast deal with the four major networks.  The eight-year deal will run until 2026 and begin in 2019 on FOX.  Viewers will then find the telecast on ABC, CBS and NBC respectively.

In a release from the Television Academy, Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington remarked, “We thank Ken Ziffren, and all those involved from both the Television Academy and the broadcast networks in reaching this new agreement.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association still hasn’t set a broadcaster for the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, but there is officially a date.  As expected, the organization revealed the 76th edition of the Golden Globes will take place on Sunday, Jan. 6.  The nominations will be announced a month earlier on Thursday, December 6.

The telecast should once again pop up on NBC, but the HFPA is still in negotiations with the network.

Members of the Television Academy are officially voting for the 2018 Emmy nominations in a year where the awards promotion machine hit new highs.  Netflix effectively built an almost 400 seat theater for 37 events at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood (and that doesn’t even count the screenings they did at the Television Academy theater in North Hollywood).  Even with fewer players Amazon Studios once again took over the Hollywood Athletic Club for a few weeks to tout their contenders and NBC made substantial pushes for “This Is Us” and “Will & Grace.”  The Television Academy even admitted there weren’t enough nights in their screening calendar for every show that wanted to participate as peak TV means simply too many contenders battling for recognition.

The Television Academy and NBC announced yesterday that “Saturday Night Live’s” Colin Jost and Michael Che, who host the “Weekend Update” segment, will emcee the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards this September.  The choice was somewhat of a surprise as the two comedy writers and performers have never hosted an event of this magnitude before.  Of course, getting Jost and Che was either a condition or a benefit of having Lorne Michaels produce the telecast and the promise of other “SNL” stars appearing on the show.
