Throughout his filmography, you can see how he goes back and forth, effortlessly, to star in massive films like “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” and then in smaller, more intimate indie films like the forthcoming “Between the Temples.”

As seen in the trailer, “Between the Temples” tells the story of a cantor who is going through his own mental health struggles.

Bouncing between narratives and time periods, writer/director Nathan Silver offers up a raw and honest view of something everyone has experienced, yet few have seen. It’s kind of like looking at your pancreas for the first time: a person might know it’s always been there, enjoying the work it does each day, but unless someone pulls it out for inspection, few know what it actually looks like.

Starring indie actor Lindsay Burdge (“A Teacher”), the film is arch and dreamy, and features a deliciously sly narration by Academy Award-winner Anjelica Huston. Our review described it as “a wry and disturbed look at lust and longing… delightfully twisted.”

Directed by Nathan Silver the filmmaker told us in a quick email interview he wanted to write a lead part for Burdge who had a role in his previous film, “Actor Martinez.

Starring Lindsay Burdge (“A Teacher”), the movie is influenced by the erotic 1970s dramas of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, but gives a deviously funny edge (think Roman Polanski’s “The Tenant”) to what is a delicious psycho sexual drama.

They take an interesting route to the truth, deliberately obfuscating the line between fiction and nonfiction in a film within a film, lulling the audience into one reality and then abruptly jarring you out of one scenario and into another.
