What happens when you get hip hop legend Nas to executive produce the soundtrack to an indie movie? You get some very serious results. “The Land,” the feature debut of writer/director Steven Caple Jr., will hit theaters this summer boasting new music from Kanye West, French Montana, Pusha T, Jeremih, and Nas himself. Not too shabby. And the first trailer for the movie makes it look like a good home for those jams.

“Fish Tank,” Andrea Arnold’s follow-up to her Cannes Jury Prize-winner “Red Road,” may not be as consistently tense as her first film, but it’s equally unnerving. It’s apparent from the first meeting between 15-year-old Mia (nervy newcomer Katie Jarvis) and her mother’s boyfriend, Connor (Michael Fassbender, “Inglourious Basterds”) that something inappropriate will happen. His looks linger a little too long on her dancing form and she’s a bit too eager for his attention and approval.

“Everytime I see a film with a car chase, I always want to fast forward the car chase,” director Andrea Arnold says about the traditional thriller model. It’s not a shocking answer from an average maker of low-budget British dramas, but Arnold has created enough tension in her two features to make anyone but Hitchcock jealous.

With its focus on a closed-circuit-camera watcher stalking a mysterious man, her first full-length film, “Red Road,” was unsettling and surprising, and it took home the Cannes Jury Prize for all the discomfort it brought to the audience.

‘Cadillac Records’ Soundtrack To Be Offered In Double-Disc Edition Featuring More Songs, Q-Tip And Buddy Guy

We already posted the details on the “Cadillac Records” soundtrack, it comes out December 2 via Columbia records and features R&B Chess Records classics as sung by Beyoncé, Nas, Mos Def, Jeffrey Wright, Raphael Saadiq and Beyonce’s younger sister Solange, right?

Sorta, there’s more. Apparently, there’s also going to be deluxe double-disc edition offered with new artwork (pictured) that features more songs, plus an appearance by Q-Tip, Buddy Guy and the film’s score composer, Terrence Blanchard (Spike Lee’s constant music man).

How shitty is the music industry these days? Real shitty. Despite having a movie that boasts tracks by Jay-Z, the Notorious B.I.G., Nas, million-plus seller Lil Wayne, Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys (a new track recorded for the film, titled “Bass Line Is Nice”), director and B-Boy Adam Yauch says there will be no soundtrack CD to his upcoming basketball documentary “Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot.” “The music industry is having so much trouble right now that nobody really wanted to pay for the clearances,” Yauch lamented to New York magazine.

You’ll recall they just released some fake ’94 public access show onto YouTube and now the filmmakers are hosting free screenings around the country. Even cooler is this Muxtape-like, mixtape application from MixWit that goes a step further by letting you embed the mix right onto your blog, webpage, etc.

The first real full-trailer for Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s hoop dreamy basketball documentary “Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot” is finally online (you’ll recall their was a snoozy teaser trailer released a few weeks back. It looks a lot more compelling than the teaser did and features Public Enemy’s 1991 track “By The Time I Get To Arizona” and Jay-Z’s “My 1st Song” (the final track from The Black Album). The soundtrack will feature tracks by Hova, the Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Lil Wayne and — you guessed it — the Beastie Boys (a new track recorded for the film, titled “Bass Line Is Nice”).

Yauch, might have shot various Beastie Boy videos under the not-so-secret guise of Nathaniel Hörnblowér, and the Beasties cheap-ass, fan-shot concert film, “Awesome!
