In a world where studios are desperate to create the next big franchise, it’s always interesting to see these sorts of things pop up in a truly organic way. “John Wick” is a good example of this. You can also lump in Ti West’s “X” trilogy, which began as a cheap slasher but in very short order, has turned into one of the most interesting horror franchises of the past decade.
