If you think that fast food restaurants have any sort of “healthy” options, filmmaker Morgan Spurlock is here to tell you the hard truth — that’s a bunch of bullshit. 13 years after making waves with his documentary “Super Size Me,” the director returns to take on the fast food corporations one more time in the upcoming sequel ‘Holy Chicken!’

As seen in the new trailer for ‘Super Size Me 2,’ Spurlock isn’t going back to his old ways and going on an all-fast food diet.

“Freakanomics,” the anthology-style documentary adaptation of the bestselling book from economist Steven D. Levitt and author Stephen J. Dubner, is a mishmash of interesting concepts, with less interesting direction. The book, which discussed and analyzed popular culture theories through economic data points, doesn’t lend itself well to a big screen adaptation. Documentaries, when done well, seem to have their “story” evolve throughout, but when adapting a book of this type – the story is essentially written for you.

Here’s one that slipped under our (and IMDB’s) radar. Morgan Spurlock has produced the documentary “Floating: the Nathan Gocke Story,” and as it gears up for its debut on cable next week, details have emerged on the pretty solid list of artists who have lent their tunes to the soundtrack.

Sigur Ros, Bon Iver, Damien Jurado, Animal Collective, Fanfarlo and Moonlight Sailor all feature in the film. Directed by Richard Yelland, the film follows a surfer who suffers a spinal cord injury that causes him to lose feeling in his arms and legs, and his journey to recovery and his dream of surfing again.

We briefly mentioned this, but now it’s official — Morgan Spurlock will be a part of a Comic-Con documentary. The film, smirkingly titled “Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope,” will be a joint project between Spurlock, Stan Lee, Joss Whedon, Ain’t It Cool founder Harry Knowles, and producers Thomas Tull and Jeremy Chilnick. Shooting begins in June, and it will track seven different people from around America as they prepare for the geek-beauty of Comic-Con.

“Covert One” will be turned into a film series by Captivate Entertainment. The book series is overseen by Robert Ludlum (and actually seeded out and written by several other hacks, err, writers) and it’s about a team of political and technical experts that fight corruption in high society. Auteur Frank Marshall of “Congo” fame (you remember that gem, right?) will direct the first, titled “The Hades Factor.” Chances are it will feature frantic cutting and maybe even an ape from “Congo” will make an appearance.

Well, the final touches have been put on the line up for the Tribeca Film Festival. “Freakonomics,” a documentary based on the best-selling nonfiction book, written by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner will close out the festival.

It’s directed by a sort of super group of documentary filmmakers including Alex Gibney, the Academy Award winner behind, “Taxi To The Dark Side,” Morgan Spurlock, the director behind the crossover doc, “Super Size Me,” Academy Award-nominated Eugene Jarecki (“The Trials of Henry Kissinger,” “Why We Fight”), Seth Gordon (“The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters”) plus Academy Award nominee doc duo, Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing ( “Jesus Camp, “Boys of Baraka”).

Universal is looking to bring “American Pie” back to the big screen. The studio currently has “American Pie 4” in development have been hired Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (“Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle”) to write the script. No word yet if this will try and bring back the original cast members (doubtful) or start anew (more likely) but we imagine it will only be marginally better than the string of straight-to-DVD sequels that the studio has endlessly churned out.

Bruce Lee Biopics Approved By Siblings, Sam Worthington Joins ‘The Candidate’

Bruce Lee’s siblings have given the go-ahead for a Chinese company to develop a series of biographical films of the martial arts star. The film’s producer added: “There will be kung fu … But more importantly, we want to portray the real Bruce Lee. What is the real Bruce Lee like? He was very humorous. He was very obedient to his parents. He was very kind to his family,”” Bruce Lee, the dramedy? [THR]

Morgan Spurlock is teaming with Dark Horse to create a graphic novel companion to his 2004 film “Super Size Me.” Titled “Supersized: Strange Tales From a Fast Food Culture,” the novel will be written by Spurlock and feature bizarre stories about the U.S.’s obsession with fast food that weren’t seen in the film while still hoping to make a point about health and nutrition.

Morgan Spurlock To Tackle ‘The Simpsons’ In Made-For-TV Documentary

Documentarian Morgan Spurlock of “Super Size Me” fame is set to produce and helm a made-for-TV documentary special based on the “The Simpsons” which will to air January 14, 2010.

Spurlock will reportedly examine the animated television series as cultural phenomenon with regards to how the world sees the show and how the family of five has seen the world for two decades.

“When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank and I hung up,” Spurlock said.
