When
fans got a look
at the trailer for “Morbius,” starring Jared Leto as the titular
bloodsucker, they noticed a brief appearance by another Jared: “Chernobyl”
powerhouse Jared Harris. And, for some reason, many of them assumed that
he would be playing Doctor Octopus, one of Spider-Man’s chief villains. (We
blame that Michael Keaton cameo at the end of the trailer.) Well, Harris
was asked about the theory at the recent SAG Awards (where he was nominated for
his work for “Chernobyl”) and he answered definitively.

Even though Sony had an incredible 2018, in regards to the studio’s ‘Spider-Man’ efforts ‘Spider-Verse’ and “Venom,” we still are skeptical of its upcoming output. Most notably, the upcoming Jared Leto film, “Morbius.” But skepticism aside, it does appear that Sony has given Leto at least one actor to perform with that could elevate the project.

Variety is reporting that Matt Smith has joined the cast of “Morbius,” in an unknown role.

Okay, “Venom” fans, it sounds like we know exactly when Sony is planning on releasing the sequel, and it’s probably right when you thought they would.

Today, Sony announced (via The Wrap) two release dates for “untitled” Marvel films. And thanks to basic deduction and a smattering of movie release date knowledge, it’s fairly easy to figure out exactly what two films the studio has scheduled.

If you’ve been a film fan, particularly in the realm of superhero films, since the early-2000s, you have probably heard the name Avi Arad. The veteran producer could be looked at as the godfather of the modern superhero renaissance. He transitioned from the CEO of ToyBiz to the chief creative officer at Marvel and finally CEO and founder of Marvel Studios. Arad is responsible for just about every Marvel film up until Marvel was purchased by Disney, and even still, is one of the main people behind Sony’s “Spider-Man” films.

Sony is definitely going for A-list talent for their “Spider-Man” spin-off universe, dubbed the Spider-Verse. First, the studio nabbed Tom Hardy for the “Venom” spin-off film that will be coming to theaters later this year. Now, it appears that Jared Leto is joining the Spider-Verse and he’s playing one of the Marvel Universe’s oddest creations.
