Even in the glut of Netflix content, some projects prove too troublesome for the streamer to release. Variety reports that after myriad post-production delays, Netflix won’t complete or release “The Mothership,” a sci-fi movie starring Halle Berry. The film wrapped filming back in 2021, but Netflix won’t finish work on the movie, shelving it permanently.

“The Mothership” would have been the directorial debut for Brish screenwriter/playwright Matt Charman, best known stateside for co-penning Steven Spielberg‘s 2015 feature “Bridge Of Spies” with the Coen Brothers.

Sometimes – not often enough –  a movie doesn’t play on a screen in front of you so much as it happens to you. And while I can’t guarantee everyone’s mileage will be the same, from about five minutes in, from its enthrallingly tense beginning through to its unexpectedly transcendent close, while Kornél Mundruczó and Kata Wéber‘s “Pieces of a Woman” was playing out on the screen in front of me, it was also taking up residence deep inside, spreading and growing like the apple seed that Vanessa Kirby‘s shattered character places tenderly in damp cotton to sprout.

The final image of David Milch’s landmark HBO series, “Deadwood,” left us with Al Swearengen (Ian McShane) fiercely attempting to scrub blood stains – from a throat he, himself, had cut – out of his office floorboards. It was a fitting closing image for an excellent chapter in the book of TV history, setting the stage for what was surely to be a fantastic final season of an unprecedented series.

Her mother indulges this behavior by going over and rubbing her head and stomach as she purrs.

Months from now, or maybe years, we’ll probably look at Zak Hilditch’s “1922” as the most essential Stephen King adaptation produced in 2017. Competition is stiff: Andy Muschietti’s “It” and Mike Flanagan’s “Gerald’s Game,” respectively released in theaters and on Netflix in September, both successfully translate King’s work from page to screen, no small feat being as consensus qualifies their source materials as “unfilmable.” (Grant that Nikolaj Arcel’s attempt at turning “The Dark Tower” into cinema failed spectacularly, but grant also that perhaps he had a tougher assignment.)

Muschietti’s aesthetic sense and broadcasted scares make “It” feel like a spooky carnival ride.
