Netflix invited members of the press to their impressive Tudum Theater in Hollywood this morning to preview some of their new animated series and feature films. While some of the news was embargoed (including a very funny Nick Kroll reminding everyone of this fact as Lola from “Big Mouth”), the streaming giant does have some things to share. Notably, the Adam Sandler animated Sony Pictures feature franchise “Hotel Transylvania” is being turned into a new animated Netflix series, “Motel Transylvania,” the Skydance animated feature “Spellbound” will hit the service on Nov.

How’s this for the most unlikely ensemble cast? Deadline reports that “SNL” alum Kate McKinnon and New Zealand comedic actor Jermaine Clement are the latest to join Jason Momoa in the Warner Bros. adaptation of “Minecraft.” The news comes just one day after Jennifer Coolidge joined the cast of the upcoming blockbuster. That’s quite the motley crew for one movie, which on paper looks like a good hang for all involved.

Warner Bros. has been developing an animated feature film based on the beloved monster-hit video game “Minecraft” for ages and it looks like the studio is ready to get things going sooner rather than later. The game focuses on players using blocks to create structures and worlds with a unique pixelated look, allowing for many interpretations of a feature film adaptation, much like another Warner Bros. Animation project, “The Lego Movie.”

We’ve finally got a promising update on “Minecraft” as Jason Momoa (“Aquaman“) is in negotiations with the studio to voice the film’s unnamed heroic lead according to The Ankler.

It appears that the long-in-development “Minecraft” movie is moving ahead once again. This time, the project has a new director at the helm, and Warner Bros. is hoping the third time is a charm.

Variety is reporting that director Peter Sollett has signed on to direct the highly-anticipated video game adaptation. For those that don’t follow video games (and don’t have a child under the age of 12), “Minecraft” is a game that allows users to create basically anything they want in a fictional world that’s built on the style of older, pixelated games.

Turning video games into hit movies is one piece of alchemy Hollywood has yet to master, missing far more often than they manage to make something work.
