If you’re a person of a certain age, you probably remember the release of the Nintendo Entertainmen System, aka the NES. More so than the Atari or any other video game console of that era, the NES was the most revolutionary thing to happen to kids…ever. Or at least that’s what it felt like. And that feeling is all over the trailer for the new Christmas film, “8-Bit Christmas.”

As seen in the trailer, “8-Bit Christmas” tells the story of a young boy and his quest to get the NES for Christmas, even though his parents have forbidden it from being a part of their home.

Over his past couple of features, “Stuber” and “Coffee & Kareem,” Michael Dowse has established himself as a director that loves to play with the combination of over-the-top violence and raunchy humor. And if there was ever a video game franchise that Dowse could apply that style to with a film adaptation, it would be “Just Cause.”

And according to Deadline, Dowse is going to do just that, as it’s been announced that the filmmaker will tackle a big-screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise, “Just Cause.” The film will follow a similar story as the games, with the hero Rico Rodriguez on a mission to stop the mercenary group, The Black Hand.

“I really think the action in buddy comedies pulls punches today and I hate that and didn’t want to do it,” Michael Dowse, the director of SXSW-debuting film “Stuber,” said empathetically during the world premiere of his new buddy comedy and action film. And it’s clear the filmmaker took his own advice, probably a little too well, and possibly overcompensating as he crafts a comedy that’s really quite hyper-violent, a little nasty in tone, and never as funny as it should be.
