Does a movie that kinda bombed at the time get a second chance 15 years after the fact when it’s become a modern-day cult classic? Screenwriter Diablo Cody is hoping so. In a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, discussing her upcoming film, “Lisa Frankenstein”— directed by Zelda Williams and releasing in theaters on February 9—the Academy Award-winning screenwriter (“Juno”) reflected back on the picture and said she would love to do a sequel to “Jennifer’s Body,” the 2009 horror comedy from director Karyn Kusama starring Megan Fox.

Believe it or not, it’s been seven years since we last saw an ‘Expendables’ film. The popular action franchise initially started as a bit of a gimmick, combining some of the biggest action stars of the ‘80s and ‘90s in one film that shows them all kicking ass. The 2010 original film became a hit and spawned two more films that would arrive in 2012 and 2014, respectively. It, previously, had its world premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was effectively that year’s “The Goldfinch,” on September 10. (One glowing review, from Variety, called the film “not exactly lifeless;” our own Playlist review isn’t very charitable either, granted, it’s got a stick in its craw about the adaptation of the original screenplay, which the reviewer loved).

Actor James Franco, possessed with the need to be a crazy multi-hyphenate, actor/writer/director/producer, poet, you name it, was directing film after film at a rapid pace. And an extraordinary speed considering how much of an in-demand actor he has been—Franco has 39 directing credits on IMDB. He’s only slowed down slightly. Between 2005 and 2019, Franco directed a whopping 16 feature films, many of them micro-budgeted, not all of them actually theatrically released (and there’s two more on the way not out yet).

A brazenly childish assault on the senses and intellect that expands its roster to include even more popular characters from the series’ animated heyday, ‘Out of the Shadows’ is a weekday-afternoon cartoon brought to belligerently digitized life – one whose assaultive style is epitomized by the 3D sight of a tank shell being fired directly at the audience’s eyes.
