Remember the Harold Ramis-directed, Judd Apatow-produced biblical comedy, “Year One” starring Jack Black and Michael Cera? Well, our first real look at it is now online. Black and Cera play bumbling cavemen / lazy hunter-gatherers who are banished from their primitive village and bungle their way through stories from the Bible including Adam and Eve, (Ramis and Rhoda Griffis), Cain and Abel (played by David Cross and Paul Rudd), and Abraham and the son he wants to sacrifice to god, Isaac (Hank Azaria and McLovin’).

Review: ‘Role Models’ Is Half-Hearted Funny With The Requisite Filth And Mush

We’re struggling with our review of “Role Models,” the new studio-picture directed by David Wain (“Wet Hot American Summer”) and starring Paul Rudd, Sean William Scott, Elizabeth Banks, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin’), Sean William Scott and newcomer, Bobb’e J. Thompson.

We’re big fans of Wain, love the Rudd, think Banks is incredibly charming and underrated in all areas, not just comedy, but it’s just not something to really laud with much fervor. Yes, it’s a little charming and endearing and funny in spots, has a few LOLs and is semi-enjoyable.

David Wain’s ‘Role Models’ Gets A Trailer

Pictures released yesterday, trailer today. Looks like this movie is moving full steam ahead, good good. David Wain’s upcoming film for Universal Pictures, “Role Models” (formerly known as “Little Big Men”) stars “Wet Hot American Summer” alumni Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, plus Seann William Scott and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka McLovin). The comedy centers on two energy drink reps (Rudd and Scott) forced to enroll in a community service program where they mentor two young boys, is due later this year on November 14.

An Apatow Reprieve?

Speaking of another Judd Apatow project, take note. There’s an Apatow film out practically every season, every 4-5 months, yes? Well, not this year. After “Pineapple Express,” the next Judd Apatow film you see won’t be until summer 2009. That’ll be the biblical comedy “Year One” starring Michael Cera, Jack Black and McLovin‘ as directed by Harold Ramis (or “Funny People” which is also “eyeing” a summer 2009 release). Maybe he’s starting to realize it becomes a bit of overkill when the films are all back to back and or maybe shooting schedules dictated the dates, but we’re pretty sure “Year One” should be almost finished by now (it’s definitely wrapped).

‘Superbad’s McLovin Tempts Fate; Jokingly Says He’ll Never Work Again

Ok, this is supposed to be a tongue in cheek, self-aware joke, but it sort of hits too close to home doesn’t it? Sure, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (aka “Superbad”s McLovin) is now part of the extended Judd Apatow-crew family players and will star in “Year One,” with Michael Cera and Jack Black, but does his career have legs after that? Will he be a crystal meth addict by the time he reaches 25? Kristen Bell and the family players obviously don’t think so (though you can detect nervous laughter within), but why tempt fate so brazenly?

Judd Apatow’s Biblical Comedy ‘Year One’ Ready To Begin

We were a bit behind on this one. Though once veiled in total secrecy, Judd Apatow’s “Year One” comedy likely due in 2009, is now apparently a biblical comedy being written with Harold Ramis (Seth Rogen’s father in “Knocked Up,” among many other seminal comedy roles) and Lee Eisenberg (“The Office”).

Little-seen actress June Diane Raphael (episodes of “Flight of the Concords”) is in final negotiations to join the cast which will reteam “Superbad”s Michael Cera with McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)!
