The Cannes Film Festival may still be a few weeks away, but that doesn’t mean its film market can’t start heating up.  Deadline reports that a package for one of the buzzier titles to hit the Croisette ready to go. And while it’s a Chris Pratt vehicle, not exactly an actor who comes to mind when thinking of Cannes, it’ll likely be a success for whomever snatches it up.

Pratt will star in an adaptation of Jocko Willink‘s bestselling novel “Way Of The Warrior Kid,” with McG attached to direct.  It’s the first time Pratt and McG work together, but it sounds like a winning combo for the white American male demographic on paper.

It’s perhaps slightly difficult to review, “The Babysitter: Killer Club,” if your trajectory towards the film is like this reviewer’s: being told, and reading through reviews, that the original, “The Babysitter,” was a surprise Halloween treat from Netflix in 2017, retroactively viewing it and discovering that’s not at all the case. Directed by McG, the Costco brand of Michael Bays, “The Babysitter”—which was about a boy in love with his babysitter only to discover she’s part of a Satanic cult— isn’t very good, and ultimately rather juvenile and crude.

In the early-2000s, you’d be hardpressed to find a more popular director in Hollywood than McG. Transitioning from his music video work (he brought the world Smash Mouth’s “All Star”) to films, the director hit it big with his two “Charlie’s Angels” films. He would then go on to direct “We are Marshall.” However, things started to go sideways in 2009 with “Terminator: Salvation.” But now, a decade later, McG has apparently found new life thanks to Netflix, who is scheduled to release his latest, “Rim of the World.”

“Rim of the World” can be summed up fairly easily by saying the film is basically “Stranger Things” meets “Independence Day.” Hell, one of the kids in the film even references the latter film.

Deadline reports that the trio of stars are set to be joined by mulitmedia personality Chelsea Handler. The stand up comedian/talk show host/author/model/reality show contestant is taking a prominent role in playing “the best friend and confidante of a woman (Witherspoon) who is lusted after by two best friends.”

Handler has actually appeared in movies before — the National Lampoon’s straight-to-DVD comedy “Cattle Call” and the Ally Sheedy drama “Steam” — but his will be the first one that people actually see and plays in a real movie theater.
