And while that role and show are coming to an end this spring, Macfadyen doesn’t have to be worried about being out of work. The “Succession” actor has just bagged a role in the upcoming Marvel movie “Deadpool 3” opposite Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

A better question to start with might be, why is creator Jesse Armstrong bringing in his Emmy juggernaut for a landing when it seems to be at the peak of its cultural and critical popularity? At the start of the fourth and now final season, it seems easy to answer that part of the dynamic in that it does feel like the drama between Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and his children could start to get repetitive.

In September, he could find himself taking home his first Emmy Award for the same acclaimed performance. Considering the depth he brought to his character, Tom Wambsgans, in the show’s magnificent third season, it would be more than deserved.

To do this, two members of British intelligence disguised the body of an already-deceased man named Glyndwr Michael as an officer of the Royal Marines, a fictitious man named William Martin. They strategically placed manufactured correspondence on Michael’s body and dumped him on the southern coast of Spain, where he would be picked up by Spanish fishermen.

That’s the story of “Operation Mincemeat,” a meat and potatoes looking WWII thriller from Netflix and director John Madden (“Shakespeare In Love”)

Due in select theaters on Friday, May 6, and premiering on Netflix Wednesday, May 11, the film does feature a solid cast that includes Colin Firth, Matthew Macfadyen, Kelly Macdonald, Penelope Wilton, and Johnny Flynn.

Concerns that the pandemic-delayed shooting would impact the show’s momentum are abated within minutes of the season premiere. Logan Roy wouldn’t waste time getting to the meat of the discussion in a review so what’s important to state up front here is that “Succession” is as smart, witty, funny, and riveting as it’s ever been.

And not only did viewers notice, but his peers.

However, “The Assistant” will show us how one goes above and beyond for her boss (even when he asks her to do some grotesque tasks), but the stress that goes along with it.

Directed and written by Kitty Green (“Ukraine Is Not A Brothel”), the film showcases what it is like for a young woman (played by Julia Garner, “Ozark”) to be abused and harassed by one of the most powerful men within entertainment.

Versatile director Michael Winterbottom is obviously fearless in his filmmaking but the helmer is showing no signs of backing down on the eve of his eyebrowing-raising Sundance entry “The Killer Inside Me” hitting theaters, now taking time to discuss his forthcoming tale of terrorism in British-ruled Palestine, “The Promised Land.”

“Right now, we’re wanting to do a film set in Palestine in the 1930s about British police chasing Jewish terrorist groups,” Winterbottom tells ComingSoon.

As for the film, we caught it at SXSW, calling it a funny/sad, dark, endearing picture that can’t be missed. Check it out when it opens on June 18th.

Huh. As it turns out, Orlando Bloom didn’t go into witness protection after his last screen appearance in the third “Pirates of the Caribbean” (excepting a cameo in “New York, I Love You,” but the less said about that, for all concerned, the better). Instead, the super-bland stilted-line-reader has been appearing in a handful of indie movies, including Mark Ruffalo’s supposedly disastrous directorial debut “Sympathy for Delicious,” the upcoming “Main Street,” alongside Colin Firth and Patricia Clarkson, and “The Good Doctor,” which he’s also producing.

Paul W.S. Anderson is the worst. We’re pretty sure we’d rather sit through the absolute dregs from the careers of McG, Brett Ratner and Michael Bay (OK, maybe not “Transformers 2”) than sit through the best from Anderson’s oeuvre, if you can call it that. From his dreadful debut “Shopping” through to 2008’s super-derivative “Death Race,” there’s been almost nothing to be found of any value in his work, other than some neat production design in “Event Horizon.” But we have to admit he’s assembling a decent cast for his next film, “The Three Musketeers.”

The 3D version of the classic tale, which is going head-to-head with Warner Bros’ bigger budget Doug Liman-directed version, already features Logan Lerman as D’Artagnan, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfayden as the Musketeers, Christoph Waltz, Mads Mikkelsen and potentially Orlando Bloom as the villains, and Milla Jovovich, the director’s wife and muse, as Evans’ love interest.

The race is on.

With Doug Liman’s “The Three Musketeers,” also gearing up for a fall shoot and readying for a 3D release, Paul W.S. Anderson is the first out of the gate to start lining up the cast for his “The Three Musketeers” film which will go in front of cameras in September.

The reimagining of the classic novel is taking one hell of an interesting turn, and it may end up being the first Paul W.S.

Any publicity truly is good publicity isn’t it? Despite all the controversy of his film “The Killer Inside Me” at Sundance recently, Michael Winterbottom has now recruited Oscar-nominated actors Colin Firth and Matthew MacFadyen for his Palestine-set political crime thriller, “The Promised Land.”

The picture follows two British officers, one played by Jim Sturgess, as he tries to track down Jewish militant groups who are responsible for terror attacks against British soldiers and Arabs in the lead up to the partition of Palestine in 1948.

On the back of his recent statement, details surrounding Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” and “Predators” sequel have been unveiled. “Machete” will be co-directed by Rodriguez and his long-time editor Ethan Maniquis and will be the first non-studio production from Rodriguez since his breakout film “El Mariachi.” Shooting for “Machete” is set to begin in Austin around June with Danny Trejo reprising his role as the title character. Rodriguez’s “Predator” sequel, meanwhile, will be made with Fox and will have its title pluralized to”Predators.”

We already suggested Rodriguez wouldn’t direct and don’t be surprised if you hear Maniquis does most of the heavy lifting, frankly and Robert is around to do a few fun scenes.
