A two-time Oscar-nominated actor known for his serious chops, Jude Law, has been spreading his wings a little bit and trying out the world of franchises in recent years. His first foray into that blockbuster domain was “Sherlock Holmes” with Robert Downey Jr. In recent years, he did a stint in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” alongside Brie Larson, and next month in December, he joins the “Star Wars” universe in Lucasfilm’s upcoming series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Captain America, and Danny Ramirez, who portrays Joaquin Torres/Falcon, were on hand to greet fans before the new trailer was shown to the excited Brazil D23 crowd.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” was the second biggest movie of the year, following “Inside Out 2,” but it could have been even bigger. The highest-grossing R-rated movie ever globally, it raked in 1.3 billion this year worldwide, became the 18th highest-grossing film of all time, and became the sixth highest-grossing Marvel movie ever, only bested by four “Avengers” films and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Filled to the brim with cameos, of course, Chris Evans as the Human Torch, Channing Tatum as Gambit, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and more, there were definitely more cameos on the table in early drafts.

Unlike the “Avengers” and “Fantastic Four” franchises, which have enjoyed a steady level of popularity in the comic medium for over five decades, giving them a built-in audience for their film adaptations, “Thunderbolts*,” a more obscure Marvel property, will have to win the affection of its audience to some extent upon its theatrical release. While this is not totally unfamiliar territory for Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, having introduced three movie installments of the relatively unpopular “Guardians of the Galaxy” comic series to massive critical acclaim and commercial success in the last decade, it is still a risk that Feige and Marvel are willing to take.

A spin-off of the “WandaVision” series centering on that antagonist witch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the limited series is a lightweight effort; lighthearted, light on its feet, light on depth, and a bit mid in flavor.

This past San Diego Comic-Con and D23 really told the future of Marvel. Once announcing projects way ahead in the future and making that extensive showy calendar for all to see, Marvel Studios unveiled no such thing. For film, they didn’t reveal any new films at Comic-Con other than the new title for the fifth “Avengers” film. Likewise, during the D23 Disney Expo, Marvel Television didn’t unveil any new titles and only reiterated that “Daredevil: Born Again” and “Ironheart” would arrive in 2025.

Former “X-Men 97” showrunner and writer Beau DeMayo is hitting back at Marvel Television. The showrunner was fired from “X-Men 97” under mysterious circumstances earlier this year, right as the first season was set to air, and he had already completed writing and overseeing season two. But DeMayo now alleges that Marvel has stripped him of all his season two writing credits.

But the real showstopper was the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will play Doctor Doom, a notorious villain from “The Fantastic Four.” Incidentally, the Fantastic Four team has been confirmed to appear in ‘Doomsday’ and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” and if you’ve paid attention, you know we’ve mentioned this RDJ/Doom rumor before.
