We caught about twenty minutes of Cameron Crowe’s “Elizabethtown” on TV recently, for the first time since its release, and were reminded why we’re glad that the writer/director has taken half a decade off to recover from that train wreck. Reports came in earlier in the year that Crowe had signed on to a new project, “We Bought A Zoo,” based on Benjamin Mee’s memoir of how he, along with his young family, purchased a zoo in Britain (as the title might suggest), while his wife was succumbing to a terminal illness.

This Week In DVD’s- Cats And Dogs

This week, DVD’s go to the cats and dogs. In addition to Best Picture Oscar winner “Slumdog Millionaire” and box office hit “Marley and Me,” Lucio Fulci’s little-seen “Cat In The Brain” also hits the format. ‘Brain,’ a long-lost and censored title, comes to the format in a two disc set that includes trailers, interviews and galleries. Boring people will enjoy selecting between “Bedtime Stories” and “Seven Pounds,” while contemporary film fans can prepare for English language remakes by seeing the original (and probably superior) versions of both “Timecrimes” and “Tell No One.”

Meanwhile, Andrzej Wajda’s French Revolution drama “Danton” gets the Criterion treatment, with a lengthy documentary flanking new essays and interviews, and special editions of both “Fallen Angels” and “Happy Together” greet the Wong Kar-Wai completist.

‘Marley And Me’ Top Dog At The Box-Office Again

It’s probably no surprise to anyone that with no new films in wide release again, the Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston puppy movie, “Marley and Me” topped the box-office weekend again, taking in an additional $24 million to its now $100-million-plus gross. Chalk it up as another victory for bland, white people. Adam Sandler’s “Bedtime Stories” at #2 with $20 million dollars is again, no big shocker.

What is semi-surprising is the massive success of more specialty films like ‘Benjamin Button’ and Tom Cruise’s “Valkyrie.” Unlike 20th Century Fox’s gamble on Baz Luhrmann and “Australia,” Paramount’s risk involving the $130 million-dollar costing ‘Benjamin Button’ by David Fincher seems to be paying off.

Cute Puppy Movie Tops Holiday Box Office Weekend, Go Figure

Big surprise. The cute puppy dog flick, “Marley And Me” starring, beige milquetoast actors Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson topped the box office this extended, four-day holiday weekend with an estimated $51.7 million. ‘Marley’ opened on Thursday, and earned $14.7 million — a new Christmas Day record that bested the 2001 record held by Michael Mann/Will Smith’s “Ali.”

‘Benjamin Button’ surprised with a total of $39 million for the four days, which is a fantastic number for a film that’s 2 and 3/4 hours, but more populist fare like Jim Carrey’s “Yes Man,” and “Seven Pounds” outdid the David Fincher film in the 4-day weekend (but not the regular 3-day weekend).

Box-Office Report: Philly Man Shot For Talking During ‘Benjamin Button’

By now you’ve probably heard that the saccharine puppy comedy, “Marley & Me” with Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston has come out in front for this extended holiday weekend box-office. Obviously the “weekend” is not over yet, but estimates so far have ‘Marley’ out front with a Christmas day record of $14.5 million. “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button” is not far behind with a $11.5 million total so far and Adam Sandler’s “Bedtime Stories is third with $10.3 million according to Box Office Mojo (though according to Nikki Finke, ‘Ben Button’ fell to #3 today and her box-office gurus are projecting a total no bigger than $25 million).

Bruce Lash Covers Nirvana’s ‘Lithium’ For ‘Marley And Me’

There was going to be a “Marley And Me” soundtrack disc and now there’s not. However, there will be a score disc based on the music composed by Teddy Shaprio (“Blades of Glory”) and it comes out 12/16 via Lakeshore records.

However, we have learned that “Marley And Me” the “heartwarming comedy” that stars some bronzer, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston and a cute puppy (we’re pretty sure that was the studio pitch) does have some pop tunes in it including Bruce Lash’s breezy, cocktail cover of Nirvana’s “Lithium,” plus track by R.E.M.

‘Marley And Me’: Maybe Owen Wilson Should Have… Jesus Christ, This Trailer Is Painful

Jesus christ, what the hell happened to Owen Wilson’s career and Wes Anderson, we really hope you’re writing him into your next movie.

Look we know that Wilson has the market cornered on emasculated blonde jagoff with the blonde, bland girlfriend, but give us a fucking break already. “Marley & Me” is ridiculously (but hilariously) called, “The heartwarming and unforgettable story of a family in the making and the wondrously neurotic dog who taught them what really matters in life.”

LOL, are they serious?
