We’ll say it right now. We really couldn’t care less about “Ghost Rider: The Spirit Of Vengeance” (lulz x 1000), but we’ll be damned if the cast being assembled for this isn’t interesting enough to make us grudgingly (and probably regrettably) watch this thing. And now one more name has been added to stoke our interest.

The “Highlander” himself, Christopher Lambert, is reportedly in talks to join the film in a role that’s yet to be specified.

Idris Elba who made badass look easy as Stringer Bell in “The Wire,” showed he can play a great straight man during his run on “The Office” and is set to make his biggest splash yet in the forthcoming crime thriller “Cross” (it’s about time he got a meaty leading film role), is in negotiations, along with Johnny Whitworth (“Gamer,” “3:10 To Yuma”), to waste his time and talents in “Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance.”

The campy, already cult-classic ready plotline will follow “Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse.

‘Ghost Rider 2’ Will Be Shot In 3D

With the tax man calling, it’s not surprising that Nicolas Cage is returning for “Ghost Rider 2.” But if you thought this was just a quickie sequel, being put in production by Sony simply to beat the November 14th contract deadline in order to prevent the rights from reverting back to Marvel, think again.

CinemaBlend have dug up a story over at Romanian news site Hot News that reveals the film will be shot in 3D.

Eva Mendes Knows Better Than To Appear In ‘Ghost Rider 2’

“Ghost Rider 2” is all set to go with Nicolas Cage and the “Crank” directing team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, but the rest of of the cast is yet to be revealed and one actor from the first film definitely won’t be returning.

Eva Mendes wisely has better things to do with her time than reprise her role as Roxanne Simpson, Johnny Blaze’s long lost love. Speaking at a junket for the forthcoming comedy “The Other Guys,” when asked if she would be appearing in the gestating sequel, she replied “No, unfortunately.”

Anyway, the sequel will apparently have a bit more of a horror edge to it, and is based on a draft that David Goyer wrote years ago.

There’s been talk of a sequel to “Ghost Rider” pretty much since the film came out in 2007 (or for several years now anyhow), with Nicolas Cage even recognizing how piss poor the movie was (at one point, he wanted to do his own reboot). Well despite reports earlier this year that Cage might not return for the film, last night on the “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (the miracle here being that somebody was watching) the actor revealed, “There’s gonna be a new one.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and that seems to hold true for the writing and directing team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

The duo were originally hired way back in 2007 to write and direct “Jonah Hex,” but left in 2008 over “creative differences.” The team were replaced by the left-field choice of animation director Jimmy Hayward (“Horton Hears A Who!”) and their script was chopped, ripped, screwed and basically bears little resemblance to what ended up on screen thanks to countless revisions and changes at the hands of the film’s producers.

The failure of “Crank: High Voltage” and being booted off “Jonah Hex” aren’t getting to writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor just yet, as they’ve just now given us a sneak-peek of their new film “Gamer.” Well, technically that’s not true- “Gamer” began principal photography even before the second “Crank” installment, and since then has been delayed by multiple release dates and reshoots. Americans now get our first look at the action thriller which was originally titled “Game” and rumored to be known as “Citizen Game.”

Gerard Butler stars in “Gamer” as Kable, a death row prisoner participating in a massive online game where users control prisoners as avatars through mind control and send them into battle against each other.

GeekBeat: Simon Pegg & Nick Frost Cast in ‘Tintin,’ And More

It’s official:

Simon Pegg & Nick Frost have been cast as Thomson & Thompson in the Steven Spielberg-helmed, Peter Jackson-produced 3D motion capture adaptation of the French comic strip, “Tintin”. Andy Serkis has also been cast as Captain Haddock. The budget’s on the low end ($135 million) of what you’d expect from a Spielberg/Jackson production. Expect ‘Tintin’ sometime next year, with a Jackson-directed sequel a couple of years after that.
