Based on the popular Wondery podcast of the same name, the series looks at real-life cases of medical malpractice. But “Doctor Death” Season 2 skips over the podcast’s second season to instead focus on the topic of its third: Paolo Macchiarini, an Italian surgeon infamous in Europe for extensive research fraud.

We already know that Blumhouse loves a franchise. The micro-budget horror film company is always keen to turn a successful one-off film into a long-running feature franchise. And one of the most successful has been “Insidious.” Now, it appears Blumhouse is ready to try its hand at an “Insidious” spinoff.

According to Deadline, Kumail Nanjiani and Mandy Moore have signed on to star in the upcoming film, “Thread: An Insidious Tale.” While it doesn’t appear that it’ll have much overt connection to the main “Insidious” franchise from filmmaker James Wan and star Patrick Wilson, it appears the tie-in comes from the fact that there will be some sort of demonic presence in ‘Thread.’

“Thread: An Insidious Tale” tells the story of a married couple who attempt to use a spell to travel back in time to stop the death of their young child.

When we think of mindnumbing explosions, noisy battle scenes and gratuitous, overblown, ridiculous action, our mind immediately turns to Michael Bay. But that’s grossly unfair and really relegate his contemporary, “Independence Day,” “2012,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” filmmaker Roland Emmerich to the margins and he’s equally adept in creating this kind of nonsense.

If you do buy that theory than predicting Emila Clarke winning is a smart move. If you think Emmy voters will instead spread the love than “Killing Eve’s” Sandra Oh winning on her second nomination after taking Golden Globes and SAG Awards earlier this year is likely the best bet.

Not every shark movie can be “Jaws.” Or last year’s excellent “The Shallows.” Or even Saturday afternoon cable standard “Deep Blue Sea.” The latest entry in the shark movie subgenre, “47 Meters Down” creates moments of genuine dread and terror-driven giggles (at least for this shark-phobic critic), but its script is dumber than a bucket of chum.

After being broken up with by an unseen – and yet still omnipresent – guy named Stewart, Lisa (Mandy Moore, who had to have signed onto this before the success of “This Is Us“) and her sister Kate (Claire Holt) take a vacation to Mexico.

With America suddenly discovering the existence of soccer in the past couple of weeks, and World Cup fever sweeping the nation, it was only a matter of time before movies started turning up based around the beautiful game. But we didn’t expect the first one to be quite as what-the-fuck as it’s turned out to be.

Actor Dermot Mulroney, best known for the likes of “My Best Friend’s Wedding” and “About Schmidt,” is currently making his directorial debut with the romantic comedy “Love, Wedding, Marriage,” which toplines Mandy Moore and Kellan Lutz, but he’s already lining up his next directorial project.

While Disney may now have Pixar in its stable now, the parent company is still trying to figure out how to steer their animation department back to the glory years that brought forth such films as “The Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty & the Beast” and “Aladdin.” While last year’s “The Princess & The Frog” seemed to be a step (in some circles) back in the right direction, the trailer for the forthcoming “Tangled” seems to to find the studio once again bringing forth a project that lacks the creative spark and distinctive voice of Pixar and even other studio projects.

Mandy Moore, Kellan Lutz (“Twilight”), James Brolin and Jane Seymour are all set to join the romantic comedy “Love, Wedding, Marriage” according to THR.

That’s not too shabby of a cast for actor Dermot Mulroney who will be making his directorial debut with this picture. And it must be a pretty decent script as high profile actors like Jessica Alba, Christopher Walken and Blythe Danner were also circling the film at one point.

James Cameron Already Planning Next Gig?

— “Avatar” has its world premiere in London tonight, and it’s just started screening for critics in the last couple of days, but James Cameron’s already plotting his follow up. Production Weekly has suggested that he’s developing an sci-fi actioner from writer Shane Salerno (“Armageddon”), an “event” film set in the future. The Hollywood Reporter reported last year that Salerno had sold a script called “Doomsday Protocol,” about an unlikely mix of humans and aliens who team up to save the Earth, but our guess would be that this’ll be something new – Cameron tends to originate his own projects more often than not.

‘Halloween 3-D’ on Hold, Thomas Haden Church & Mark Strong Join ‘John Carter Of Mars’

– Nikki Finke, via CHUD, are reporting that the Weinstein Company has shut down pre-production on the Patrick Lussier-directed “Halloween 3-D,” which was being pushed for a November start date. Finke reports that the principle reason for the delay was that the script was felt to be “rushing too fast,” although the company’s financial instability may have also played a part. Rob Zombie’s second film in the franchise will be re-released for midnight showing on October 31st, to coincide with the titular holiday.

– Mattel and Warner Bros. — apparently taking pity on the moviegoing audience — have reached a mutual decision to let the rights lapse to “Masters of the Universe,” which Joel Silver had been developing for the studio with “Kung-Fu Panda” director John Stevenson attached to direct. Variety claims that Warners and the toy company “didn’t see eye to eye over the direction of the project,” and that Mattel hope to set the He-Man property up elsewhere, with Stevenson still on board, so we’re not totally out of the woods yet, but at least it should be a few more years of development before this sure-to-be disaster hits the screen.

Germs Biopic ‘What We Do Is Secret’ Hitting U.S. Theaters In August

The long-completed Germs biopic, “What We Do Is Secret” will finally hit U.S. theaters in August via Peach Arch Entertainment – the same company putting out “The Go-Getter” – according to Billboard.

Initial screenings will be held New York (Aug. 8), Chicago (Aug. 15) and Los Angeles (Aug. 23) and the picture may roll out into other major markets depending on how it performs (which seems to be the cautious approach that the new fledgling Peach Arch seems to have for all their releases, again, see ‘Go-Getter’).

Well, he made his ‘Darko’ follow-up, enigmatic sci-fi film “Southland Tales” a long, long time ago. Surely he’s over it (and in fact, he’s moved on to other projects). However, ‘Tales’ is finally getting a belated release this fall and apparently it’s a pretty wacked-out film.

What a nice surprise “Dedication” was. The cynical (us, sometimes), may have seen this as another “Garden State,” but there’s no emo man-child finding his way through life, nor is there a spoiled brat declaring, “this band will change your life” (and thank Christ for that).

Billy Crudup stars as Henry, an extremely fucked-up, pathologically OCD children’s story writer. The always fantastic Tom Wilkinson plays Rudy his long-time friend, father figure and illustrator.
