For kids in the nineties, “Space Jam” was an event. In 1996, Michael Jordan was a global icon, and the Looney Tunes were still a cartoon staple for kids around the world. Sure, the lens of nostalgia makes it easy to forget that the movie, like Jordan’s acting, isn’t that great, but everyone under the age of 14 wanted to see “Space Jam” the summer it came out.

Warner Bros. is deep into development of the studio’s upcoming animated/live-action hybrid comedy “Space Jam 2.” The film seemed to be close to the beginning of production, with casting underway and a script finished. However, on the eve of production, it appears that “Space Jam 2” is getting a change at the top, with a brand-new director coming on board.

According to THR, filmmaker Terence Nance is now gone as director of the film, replaced by incoming filmmaker Malcolm D.

The upcoming comedy, “Night School,” has all the ingredients for what should be a huge hit. Comedian Kevin Hart is coming off the massive success of “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” and has consistently produced hit films over the last several years. His co-star in “Night School” is Tiffany Haddish, who exploded on the scene last year with her star-making turn in “Girls Trip.” Now, with their powers combined, “Night School” is hoping to be one of the biggest comedies of the year.

I can’t imagine the pitch meeting for “Girls Trip” was very difficult. It’s the kind of movie where a screenwriter or director could walk into a studio with the name on a concept poster and walk out with a deal, which is a long way of saying, you probably know what you’re getting into with this new red band trailer for the upcoming comedy.

Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter, and Kofi Siriboe come together in the Malcolm D.
