In a year that sees Kate Winslet possibly earn awards recognition for her role in the upcoming film “Ammonite,” perhaps the most interesting role the actress has is in “Black Beauty.” Why? Well, in this upcoming Disney+ feature, Winslet doesn’t appear on screen. Instead, she voices a horse.

It looks like “Black Beauty” will ride again, as Disney+ announced today that a contemporary adaptation of Anna Sewell’s classic 19th century novel of the same name is set to premiere on the streaming service later this year. Black Beauty (this time round voiced by Oscar winner Kate Winslet) is a wild mustang born free in the American west. When she is captured and taken away from family, her story intertwines with that of 17-year old Jo Green (here played by Mackenzie Foy, last seen destroying the space time continuum in “Interstellar“), who is similarly grieving over the loss of her parents.

Still riding the wave of success from “Avengers Infinity War,” “Solo,” and “Incredibles 2,” Disney is hoping to build momentum for their newest live-action fantasy “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.”  Doing what Disney does [or use to do] best, telling fairytales, the studio seems to be putting their own spin on the classic story of “The Nutcracker,” bringing what appears to be a slight “Alice in Wonderland” spin on the tale.

It’s not often that a Disney movie flies under the radar, but “The Nutcracker And The Four Realms” has been a rather curious endeavor. Production began all the way back in October 2016, and wrapped up at the beginning of January of this year. However, the mouse house didn’t like what they had, and lost in the promotional push for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (which is probably exactly how they wanted it), was the news that Joe Johnston was going to helm a staggering thirty-two days worth of reshoots, with new material written by Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight“).
