With Charlie Cox delighting fans with his reintroduction as Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, folks are dying to see what happens in the forthcoming series, “Daredevil: Born Again.” And while everyone is hyped about ‘Born Again’ and how it might integrate the character further into the MCU, fans are wondering if more of Cox’s Netflix/Marvel brethren will be joining the cause. As the story has long been told, Quentin Tarantino once toyed with making a Luke Cage movie. After “Reservoir Dogs,” the writer/director spoke with producer Ed Pressman about the possibility, and he wanted Laurence Fishburne to play the Marvel character, but Tarantino made “Pulp Fiction” instead, and the rest is history. However, the filmmaker has said Luke Cage was his favorite comic book character, so if anyone is going to have an opinion about how the hero is portrayed, it’s Tarantino.

Based on the ultra-strong, virtually invulnerable character who debuted back in 1972 and became Marvel’s first title led by an African-American character, appropriately enough the show is the first property in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after 13 movies and four TV series, to be led by a black actor, with Mike Colter playing Luke.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that Marvel movies have really shit villains. But fortunately, so far, the bad guys on the Netflix Marvel shows, set within the MCU, have been the best parts of the sometimes patchy shows: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk was so good he made us wish the show was called “Kingpin” and not “Daredevil,” while David Tennant was indelibly creepy on “Jessica Jones.”

And now, one of the villains, or anti-heroes at least, is getting his own show, with “The Punisher” set to follow the still-to-debut “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist” and team-up miniseries “The Defenders” on the streaming service.
