The first Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony won’t occur until Saturday, September 3rd, but the Television Academy already has an initial slate of 2022 winners. According to a release from the Television Academy, these juried recipients were screened d and then judge by a panel of professionals in their respective peer groups (Animation, Costume Design, Hairstyling, Makeup, and Motion Design). This year’s winners represent programs such as “We’re Here,” “Arcane,” “Legendary” and “Love, Death + Robots.”

Based on the winners below, Netflix has the early win in overall Emmy wins this year with four.

Director David Fincher got his feature film start with “Alien 3” but has avoided the sci-fi genre until recently, making his triumphant return with his animated short “Bad Travelling” for his animated anthology project “Love Death + Robots,” his first entry into directing animation. The short, streaming on Netflix, mixes multiple genres with horror and features a Lovecraftian-type creature along with a mortality tale, based on a Neal Asher (a handful of his work is used on the show) story that was adapted by longtime collaborator Andrew Kevin Walker (“Seven“).

This month will see the return of “Love, Death + Robots” on Netflix, which is produced by Tim Miller and David Fincher. With the third volume arriving, something special is happening. Fincher will be helming his first animated short for the anthology streaming series.

Netflix has released a new trailer (See below) and announced Fincher is directing the segment “Bad Travelling” which was written by screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker (“Se7en“) and based on a short story by Miller’s longtime pal, author Neal Asher.

You should know the gist of “Love, Death & Robots” an adult animated anthology horror streaming television series on Netflix. The story goes something like this: for years, David Fincher wanted to remake the adult animated anthology movie “Heavy Metal,” based on the adult-oriented sci-fi fantasy magazine, and he wanted Tim Miller, a VFX artist who went on to direct his own films like “Deadpool” and “Terminator: Dark Fate” to work on it (Miller and Fincher go way back and he designed the title sequences of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”).

In yet another sign the Television Academy may need to seriously reconsider some of its categories, Claire Foy won her second Emmy Award for playing Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown.” This win, however, came in the Guest Actress in a Drama Series category and for a less than 5 minute appearance in the fifth season of the series. A season in which another Emmy nominee from the series, Olivia Colman, will likely lose her Lead Actress category for playing the same character (although a few decades older).

Also, likely, gathering data on whether 18 shorts for a single season would be seen as an excessive/necessary endeavor (based on who watched how many vs. who dropped off after only viewing a handful).

Before “Deadpool” director Tim Miller became a name, the filmmaker was a VFX whiz and so much so that he had gained the respect and admiration of judicious, hard-to-gain-the-respect-of-filmmakers such as David Fincher and James Cameron, both of whom he had worked with in the past. Fincher and Cameron were instrumental in getting “Deadpool” made and or at the very least, championed Miller to 20th Century Fox in the years before it was made and seemingly sitting around in limbo.
