This is a show that wasn’t the first of its kind—a serialized drama that captured the hearts and minds of viewers—but it was one of the most influential series of the past 30 years, full stop. The impact “Lost” had on the shows that came after it is immense, in terms of storytelling, structure, and style. However, it is’t until years later that we’re finally digging deep into what was only hinted at during its run— “Lost” was a mess behind the scenes.

More and more, we get the news that networks and streaming services are bringing back popular series for new seasons, reboots, remakes, or a combination of all three. And it doesn’t matter if the original series aired decades ago or even just a few years back. Everything is on the table. So, that would lead many fans to believe that perhaps ABC’s “Lost” is ripe for revival.

This episode is inspired by a recent essay called “Stranger Things” and the Problem of Plotblocking, written by indie filmmaker Andrew Matthews (“Zero Charisma“) for the site.

The more TV shows use cinematic ideas and stories — either literally with a reboot or remake, or something more indirectly paying homage à la “Stranger Things” — it may appear these disparate mediums are merging interchangeably.

We could go down the ‘Why on earth is the Jack Ryan franchise a franchise, considering its bland, interchangeable main character?’ route again, but we’ve been down that road, so we’ll keep it brief and to the point. After rumors linked Sam Raimi, Gore Verbinski, Timur Bekmambetov and Kevin MacDonald to the directors chair on the Ryan reboot “Moscow” a few weeks back, Vulture has news that a rather surprising candidate looks close to be landing the chair.

Yesterday, we talked about the new Brian K Vaughan spec script, “The Vault,” a high concept heist movie that’s currently being shopped around to the major studios. And today we have a script review, because that’s how we roll.

For those of you not familiar with Mr. Vaughan’s work, he’s a comic book luminary who has overseen wonderful series for major publishers like Marvel’s “Runaways” (which we hear is going to be one of the first big Disney/Marvel properties out of the gate) as well turning in smaller, more personal work for imprints like Vertigo (his seminal, 60-issue “Y: The Last Man”) and Wildstorm (his still-ongoing political superhero tale “Ex Machina”).

We sometimes rag on comic book movies here at The Playlist, partly because so much of the medium’s output is so relentlessly juvenile (Mark Millar, we’re looking at you). But there are plenty of comic creators who are putting out consistently excellent work, and foremost among them at the moment is Brian K. Vaughan.

Best known as the creator of the long-running series “Y: The Last Man,” which had D.J. Caruso and Shia LaBoeuf attached for a while, although it seems to have stalled since, the writer’s work on the likes of Marvel’s “Runaways” and the political superhero drama “Ex Machina” (which someone really should turn into an HBO series) is fiercely original and intelligent.

It looks like Paramount really believes in J.J. Abrams “Star Trek,” prequel. The studio has just announced that writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof have been hired to write a sequel. Orci and Kurtzman wrote the first film coming out May 8 (they’re also the screenwriting duo behind the “Transformers” series and have been in the Abrams stable for years) and Lindelof was one of the producers.

“There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet – but we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed,” revealed Lindelof, Abram’s co-creator on “Lost.” Regarding the film’s direction, he further added “With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin.

As you may have read over at Pitchforkmedia, the Montreal orchestral band A Silver Mt. Zion have lent their track, “Tho You Are Gone I Still Often Walk W/You,” to an upcoming promo for the fourth season of the convoluted mystical island show, “Lost.”

MT. Zion are a Montreal outfit with many members of the staunchly anti-capitalist/anti-commercial squatter-rock symphony Godspeed You! Black Emperor, so it strikes some as odd that they would even touch this with a 50-ft pole (you’ll remember that Godspeed lent a track to Danny Boyle’s “28 Days Later” and then had a shitfit over it).
