Just over a year after scrapping “Batgirl,” Warner Bros. and David Zazlav have killed off another nearly completed feature that was meant to be an HBO Max release and vaulted it instead. According to a new report, Warner has decided to cancel “Coyote Vs. Acme,” a live-action animated hybrid “Looney Tunes” film, ala “Space Jam,” that would have starred John Cena.

More than 40 years after the release of “Star Wars,” retroactively titled “Star Wars: A New Hope,” it’s easy to dismiss the cultural impact the film had considering the legacy the franchise has spawned over the decades. But it’s important to remember that before ‘A New Hope’ arrived in theaters in 1977, there really hadn’t been anything like that before. And George Lucas clearly was aware of this, as a new piece of “Star Wars” trivia points to the director wanted to warn audiences about the tone of his film with a “Looney Tunes” cartoon.

Pepe Le Pew has been a controversial “Looney Tunes” character for a while now. Sure, as a kid, you look at the skunk that is always chasing women as a silly, somewhat creepy character. But as you grow into adulthood and reminisce about the antics of Pepe, it’s clear that the character might not be the best role model for children who are learning about how to woo a significant other, considering he often grabs them, forces them into unwanted affection, and other various things that would land a human in serious trouble.

One wonders what the original audiences thought, as they settled into their seats thirty years ago, of the out-of-nowhere opening to Joe Dante’s six-years-later sequel to his 1984 smash “Gremlins.” Because “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” does not open like a conventional summer sequel; it opens with Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, in a Warner Bros. logo animation that breaks out of the movie entirely for a brief bit of Merrie Melodies-inspired lunacy.
