No red carpet, no premiere, minimal press, the press tour for “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom” is a rather sad ending to the DC Extended Universe [DCEU] first started by Zack Snyder with “Man Of Steel” in 2013. About 15 films in total, after many false starts and at least three studio regime changes in that time, all that continuity is being scrapped by what is now DC Studios, a new era of DC Films that is run by director James Gunn, producer Peter Safran and begins in summer 2025 with “Superman: Legacy.”

With the release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” this week, Warner Bros. long, disappointing year of superhero films comes to a merciful end. No matter how well ‘Lost Kingdom’ does at the box office, the film marks the last of the pre-James Gunn/Peter Safran regime, and thus, closes the book on the DCEU. And with all of this being very public knowledge, ‘Aquaman’ star Jason Momoa has a really strange interview cycle to take part in.

Syfy Is Developing A ‘Lobo’ TV Series Based On Ludicrous DC Comics Character

The DC Comics character Lobo exists in a weird place amongst the long, storied pantheon of iconic superheroes. Created as a parody of the dark, gritty superhero comics of that era, Lobo is so over-the-top in every respect. Whether it’s the size of his guns, the abundance of muscles and chains, and his space motorcycle, it’s clear that you shouldn’t take Lobo seriously. And yet, he became the very thing he once parodied, as the go-to “badass” of the DC Universe.

The DC Films Universe: All The Movies Coming Soon & In Development

Almost exactly four years ago, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed an incredibly ambitious slate of films for the new DC Extended Universe. Ten films in total, the list of films began with 2016’s “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and charted a four-year path that would end in 2020 with a “Cyborg” solo film, starring Ray Fisher. With only “Man of Steel” released at the time, many people saw this slate and were concerned that WB/DC was being too ambitious.

Warner Bros. Hires Scribes For ‘Green Lantern 2’ & ‘The Flash’

In a move that indicates serious confidence in their June 17, 2011 tentpole, Warner Bros. have hired Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, who worked together on the upcoming “Green Lantern,” to pen a treatment for the sequel to that film, as well as for “The Flash” movie.

Neither of these are at the script phase and while it’s not “The Hangover 2” being nearly green lit two months before the original hit theaters, it is a bold move.

IESB must have hit some scoop motherload, and even though they aren’t always accurate, they sure do seem to be scoring some hit-worthy stories. First, the Joss Whedon-on-“Avengers” story, then the potential involvement of another young actor for “Spider-Man IV” and now, alleged news on two major upcoming comic book movies, one already troubled, the other still in gestation.

Guy Ritchie Offically Off Lobo Film To Focus On ‘Sherlock Holmes 2’

We’d love to take the credit for this after we wrote an open letter to Guy Ritchie in September warning him off a potential “Lobo” film, but it looks like the success of “Sherlock Holmes” did the dirty work for us.

In an interview with the LA Times, producer Joel Silver said of Ritchie directing “Lobo”: “I don’t think he’s going to do it now. The studio wants us and Guy to focus on making another ‘Sherlock Holmes.’ So I think we’re going to be doing that.

In an interview with newly-minted head of DC Entertainment, Diane Nelson, she spoke of the many projects the revamped company has in the pipeline. Recently, the company’s moved forward on developing properties like “Lobo” and “Green Lantern” and yet there is no movement on another Superman picture. With the flurry of activity at the new company, many have predicted that they would be reassessing their previous work and seeing where partners like Legendary Pictures’ “Superman Returns” went wrong.

Muse’s Matt Bellamy To Score ‘Clash Of The Titans?’ Kasabian To Score Guy Ritchie’s Next?

Aside from being big, bombastic British stadium rock bands that we’d rather not have to listen to, Muse and Kasabian look to have something else in common – they may be moving into the world of film scoring. In an interview yesterday on KROQ’s Kevin & Bean Show, lead singer Matt Bellamy was asked by a fan if he’d ever consider scoring a film, following his soundtrack work on the likes of “Twilight” and “Southland Tales.”

Bellamy responded that, following his work scoring the end credits of Tom Twyker’s “The International,” embedded below and which inspired him to include the orchestral track ‘Exogenesis’ on the band’s new album ‘The Resistance’ (which hits stores today), he may be doing some “vague work” on Louis Leterrier’s “Clash of the Titans” remake.

Dear Guy Ritchie, Drop Joel Silver, Don’t Direct ‘Lobo’

Man, Guy Ritchie’s career just keeps getting worse and worse (or better and better if you’re an Ain’tItCool writer or someone from that ilk).

What started out promising: a thrilling and kinetic voice in comedic crime dramas has devolved into a poster boy for bad-looking blockbusters. First Ritchie hit bust with, “RocknRolla” — one too many times dipping into the same crime caper well — then he signed up for “Sherlock Holmes” which really just looks like a Disney theme-ride in cinematic form (curse your stench Joel Silver), but now he’s got his next project on lock: an adaptation of the D.C.
