When you try to gauge your excitement for an upcoming film, you can do so in a number of ways. You can look at the cast and see if that’s enough to get you hyped. Or if there’s no cast, such as the upcoming “Pet Sematary” follow-up (earlier reports call it a prequel), you have to look at the filmography of the new director, Lindsey Beer, and see if it’s strong enough to build your optimism for the new horror film.

At this point in 2020, it’s hard to think of a clever, catchy opening for an article about another Disney remake. We know they’re going to happen. We know they’ll make about a billion dollars each. We know they’ll kick off another round of hand-wringing as to whether this film should be classified as live-action or animation. And finally, we know that they will fade from the public spotlight with little fanfare. “Jungle Book” made $966 million in 2016 and it doesn’t even get to be part of the “Watch at Home” carousel on the Disney website.

Fresh off his billion-dollar blockbuster “Aquaman,” director James Wan is busy working on some TV projects, recently. First, this summer sees the debut of his superhero-horror series “Swamp Thing,” on the DC Universe streaming service. Then after that, it appears that the next TV project on tap for Wan is behind the camera for the Netflix series “The Magic Order.”

According to Netflix, James Wan has signed on to produce and direct the pilot episode for the streaming service’s upcoming wizards and sorcerers-based series “The Magic Order.” He’s joined by writer-producer Lindsey Beer, who will act as showrunner for the new show.
