The only problem is whether or not that is good for the company’s bottom line.

In a new piece by Business Insider, MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe decided to share some statistics for the summer movie season to show just how many tickets are being purchased through the subscription service.

It’s almost as if we can copy/paste our box office reports from the last two weekends and run them again because as expected, the Marvel Studios film is still the most dominant film we’ve seen in a while at the multiplex.

This weekend, ‘Infinity War’ pulled in an estimated $60 million* (-48% drop from last weekend) for a domestic total of $546 million after three weekends.

Last week saw the wide release of Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s “Tully,” wherein Charlize Theron plays a burned-out mom. Coming soon is the home invasion thriller “Breaking In,” in which Gabrielle Union must protect her kids from white intruders. And on the funnier side, Melissa McCarthy is offering “Life of the Party,” a comedy about a mother who attends the same college as her daughter following her unexpected divorce.

Those are the easy parts of dealing with a break-up, the hard parts are discovering who you are without that person and figuring out what’s next. In New Line Cinema’s new comedy “Life of the Party,” Melissa McCarthy explores that “what’s next” stage.

Now, what if that concept was applied to a live-action movie?

I’m not saying “Life Of The Party” might want to send some royalty cheques to “The Simpsons,” but the concept is identical, with Melissa McCarthy playing a grown woman who heads back to school.

A few weeks before the release of “Adventureland,” we had the good fortune to sit down with director Greg Mottola and discuss all kinds of projects. We talked about “Adventureland,” and its awesome ’80s college rock soundtrack and “Paul,” his upcoming roadtrip comedy with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

But one project we especially wanted to know more about was “Life of the Party,” his planned 1998 follow-up to “The Daytrippers,” which was greenlit and ready to go but collapsed at the last minute, leaving the director hurt and disillusioned.

Ever wonder why it took filmmaker Greg Mottola 11 years to follow-up his winning1996 indie debut, “The Daytrippers” with “Superbad” in 2007?

Well, two years after “The Daytrippers,” the writer/director had a new project ready called, “Life Of The Party.” In 1998, Variety even announced the project, describing it as a ensemble comedy “about a group of friends who travel to the South of France to rejoin an old pal of theirs who is in need of their company.”

It almost sounds like the “what if” scenario of his newest film, “Adventureland,” (screening at Sundance this week) as the protagonist’s plan in the story is to initially travel to Europe with friends, but is stymied by economic issues.
