And it basically never works because these folks have been through some serious media training. That said, sometimes you get a little nugget, such as with Letitia Wright talking about Black Panther.

During a recent interview on “The View,” Letitia Wright was asked if there was more Marvel films in her future—specifically “Black Panther 3.” The actor, being as media trained as she is, didn’t confirm nor deny anything, but she did give fans hope that they might see the new Black Panther in something.

With any luck, a talented group of actors will help to elevate both elements to a level beyond what could be considered a stage play with cowboy hats and revolvers. When this feat is achieved, the results can often be excellent, ranging from the legendary Clint Eastwood’s genre-defining “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” and “Unforgiven,” as well as more recent entries such as Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” and “The Hateful Eight.”

READ MORE: The 25 Best Westerns Of All Time

Somewhere in the middle of the graph of quality sits “Surrounded,” the newest addition to the genre, fulfilling the requirements mentioned above to a T, as if someone in the editing room was running through a list as the final cut played out before them; Vast, rural landscapes?

This is due to her outstanding performance in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” So, even before she won her award, there was plenty of discussion of the “Black Panther” franchise on the red carpet, and star Letitia Wright was there to confirm that more is on the horizon.

Though it’s unlikely Letitia Wright will get any major awards nominations for her performance in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” it isn’t for lack of quality and effort. The young actress clearly puts every bit of herself into her role as Shuri, the new Black Panther and protector of Wakanda. But for how emotional the entire film is for Wright, as she and the cast/crew had to move on from the passing of Chadwick Boseman, there was one scene in particular that really hit hard for the actress.

And spiritually, there is great lineage to this bitter resignation about demise, pride, ancestries, the great depths below us, and the refusal to accept enslavement.

Obviously, she is set to have a massive role in the upcoming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which will no doubt turn her into an instant A-lister. However, she’s also got a couple of smaller dramas that are arriving this year that will showcase her acting chops. The first one, “The Silent Twins,” arrived recently and is a stunning coming-of-age drama.

But, because of the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020 from cancer, that’s exactly where “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” has to start. Now Marvel has held the particulars back from audiences, but it’s clear from the first trailer and the images that Wakanda is in grief, mourning their King.

Directed and co-written by Ryan Coogler, the film not only looks like it explores grief, but a new geo-political threat as the world sees Wakanda on its knees and vulnerable without its king to protect its precious vibranium resources and advanced technology.

But her role in the new movie, “The Silent Twins,” directed by celebrated Polish auteur Agnieszka Smoczynska (“Lure“), might have been one of the most intense productions she has experienced in her career thus far. And in this episode of The Playlist Podcast, I had the opportunity to talk to Wright about her role in “The Silent Twins,” as well as one of the most anticipated films of the year, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

Obviously, most people recognize Wright from her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she played the young, wisecracking scientist, Shuri, in “Black Panther,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.” However, her role in “The Silent Twins” is a very different affair.

And when they’re separated, the pair goes catatonic, but together they craft elaborate works of fiction. Sounds like a strange, beguiling story? Well, it is, and it’s a true story, and it’s the basis of Polish director Agnieszka Smoczyńska‘s feature debut, “The Silent Twins.”

She bathes and prays. She takes a long bus ride to a hair salon, where she does menial labor for minimal pay while making small talk with pleasant-enough white ladies, and then she takes the long bus ride home. She’s a Nigerian immigrant, seeking asylum in Ireland, a decision that will be made at a very important interview six weeks from now. “They must know everything that happened,” her mother insists, a sentiment shared by her attorney.

But maybe not. A young farmer and solider, Hercule Poirot (played by a de-aged Branagh), saves the day with a battle strategy based on his keen powers of observation, only to have his face scarred by a land mine detonated by his captain.

Towards the end of 2021, it was revealed that star Letitia Wright was actually injured on the set of the film and this caused the entire production to be halted with everyone expecting to reconvene in January. But then it was reported that Wright’s anti-vax status might make it difficult for the actress to return to the US to film.

A kind of jukebox musical set in a world populated by oddball anthropomorphic animals (released just a few months after “Zootopia”), it is charming and upbeat. The kind of movie you can tap your toe to. (It was also hugely successful, making nearly $650 million worldwide.) A sequel was inevitable.

Even if you’re just someone who doesn’t hold any power and just goes about your normal life, if you go on social media and spread anti-vax memes, you’re likely going to be rightfully called out for doing so. And for “Black Panther” star, Letitia Wright, she learned this the hard way last year.

That’s the big question regarding this year’s Emmy category for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series. Can anyone seriously stop the “WandaVision” scene-stealer from winning her first Emmy Award on her second nomination? And, sure, she’ll get some legitimate competition from “Small Axe’s” Letitia Wright and “Mare of Easttown’s” Jean Smart. Beyond that? Well…

You broke out in a big, big way in 2018 after co-starring in “Black Panther.” From there, you show up in “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” two of the biggest films of all time.
