As an adult, it’s often difficult to remember how much life there is ahead of you. As a middle schooler, it’s nearly impossible. It constantly feels like you’re stuck in a perpetual cycle of awkwardness, confusion, frustration, and self-doubt. You also assume that everything is going to be the same from that moment on for the rest of your life, that you’ll have the same exact friends, the same interests, meet your middle-to-high-school sweetheart, marry them, and spend the rest of your lives together.

It’s been up in the air for a few months — at one point it was thought perhaps Harold Ramis would helm it* — but Ivan Reitman has confirmed that he will direct “Ghostbusters 3.”

After months of speculation, Reitman told MTV that he would in fact direct the project. “They have delivered a draft,” Reitman said of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky’s screenplay.

She confirms that she’s been asked to read the script, although she does say “I don’t know if I’m going to be in it.”

She doesn’t sound terribly enthusiastic for it either saying, “I’m afraid to say it [‘Ghostbusters 3’] is happening, I hope people are excited about that.”

She suggests that the son of her character from the previous movie will be a big part of the film.

The semi-good news started when Bloody Disgusting “reported” some sort of non-news (it’s kind of a rambling, sloppy piece to be honest) in that original “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters II” producer/director Ivan Reitman was “straight up confirmed, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt,” to be involved in the project which wasn’t a total shock (or even news) since he’s been part of these discussions since they started last year.

Bill Murray is allegedly signed on, which really means he’s given an indication that if the script is good, he’ll be apart of the project (which is probably a big difference from 10 years ago when he wasn’t returning Dan Aykroyd or Harold Ramis’ calls).

While discussing his plans for the film — which Ramis may or may not direct, original Ivan Reitman may take a crack at it too — he notes that he
co-wrote the story with the aforementioned ‘Office’ writers, and he puts Spielberg & Lucas’ lameduck ideas on blast while he’s at it.

But immediately more interesting to us is this quote from Reitman about the fact that any of the “Ghosbusters” crew, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, himself and Columbia have veto power to kill a third film if they don’t like the story written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (Ramis’ “Year One,” “The Office”)

“Yeah, I think [the younger generation] is part of the story that we’re working on right now.

and thinks the third installment of the franchise could begin production as soon as the winter. Then again, the writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky haven’t even started the screenplay yet and Aykroyd — who lost the plot ages ago — is the most over-eager of all the “Ghostbusters.” If he had his way, they would be on “Ghostbusters 5” by now and the franchise would probably have been ruined beyond repair with his horrible, would-be, “Ghostbusters Go To Hell,” idea he wanted for “Ghostbusters 3” that Bill Murray and Harold Ramis passed on years ago.Anything Aykroyd says should and must be taken with a grain of salt.

Here’s the gist of it: When two cavemen (Micheal Cera and Jack Black) are exiled from their tribe in ancient times, they team to make it through the rough terrain of extremely ancient history together.

While this is another big ’09 comedy from the Judd Apatow brand, he’s only serving as a producer, and has no creative input, leaving that to the still-vital Ramis, who also co-wrote with Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (“The Office”).

Or maybe they’re just Cro-magnon, primitive hunters and gatherers whatever. The biblical comedy “Year One,” starring Jack Black and Michael Cera has a poster. We read the script earlier this year, it’s cute and funny. A harmless, but probably fun addition to the Judd Apatow-related comedy universe (he’s just producing; script review soon). Here are the details we wrote earlier this year.

Nope, not according to the L.A. Times, who spoke to Columbia chief Doug Belgrad. Yes, ‘G3’ is being written by “The Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky, who also wrote the Apatow produced biblical comedy “Year One,” directed by “Ghostbusters” alum Harold Ramis later this summer, but that’s apparently only a convenient coincidence according to the studio president.

Belgrad elucidates, “It’s not true.

It does make some sense though, the film is being written by “The Office” writers Lee Eisenberg and Greg Stupnitsky, who also wrote the Apatow production of the biblical comedy “Year One,” directed by “Ghostbusters” alum Harold Ramis later this summer.
