Be honest: when was the last time you thought about “Law Abiding Citizen“? F. Gary Gray‘s modest actioner might be a rock-solid thriller – and the beginning of Gerard Butler‘s transformation into a B-movie icon – but the film hardly seemed poised to be reclaimed as an integral piece of the 2000s action canon. Until today, anyways. Now, with the news that “Law Abiding Citizen” is coming back with a big chunk of its original creative team intact, we might be in for the next stage in the Butler renaissance.

Promotions will undoubtedly be handed out all over Paramount’s marketing department on Monday after the no-budget, no-stars horror flick “Paranormal Activity” vaulted from the 5th spot to #1 this weekend. Earning an astonishing $22 million dollars, on just under 2000 screens, the film has taken in a whopping $62 million at the box office so far. Clearly, the viral marketing is working and word-of-mouth on this is strong as audiences are lining up in droves to get their Halloween fix.

With an almost $12 million dollar haul on Friday night, Spike Jonze’s divisive adaptation of “Where The Wild Things Are” (critics either seemed to looove it or sneer in disdain at its lack of narrative and drive) the film seem poised to outdo its forecasted $25 million dollar weekend and it did taking in an impressive $32.7 million this weekend. The picture, with reshoot costs north of $80 million (estimates are around $100 million noting included promotions and advertising), so it has a long, long way to go before it becomes profitable, let alone break even.

In Wide Release: It’s all about the kids this week as Spike Jonze’s long-delayed, feverishly anticipated “Where The Wild Things Are” finally hits cinemas.

Though the $80 million plus (some estimates put the production with reshoots around $100 million) picture that’s not necessarily for kids has been pegged to open at a modest $25 million.

Jonze brings the beloved Maurice Sendak book to the screen with the help of McSweeney guru Dave Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay.

Jamie Foxx is ready to return to his comedic roots by joining the cast of Todd Phillips’ “Due Date.” Foxx, whose last comedy was the best-forgotten “Breakin’ All The Rules” five years ago, and who got his start on the Fox sketch comedy show “In Livin’ Color,” had pretty much pulled a Tom Hanks lately, signing exclusively to Oscar-baiting fare since his career changing turn in “Ray.” (Although his latest film, “Law Abiding Citizen” opening this fall, may turn out to be unintentionally hilarious if the trailers are any indication.)

Foxx will join a helluva cast, playing the best friend to leading man Robert Downey Jr.

Guy Ritchie has revealed that “Sgt. Rock” will not be his next project and has hinted that a new comic property will “arguably, possibly” be what he tackles next. “I intend to be making a film by January. I’m not sure exactly what, but I’m quite confident that by January I’ll be in production.” On what that project may be and if he has his eye on any another comic properties, the director cryptically added: “That, you’ll find out shortly… I don’t commit myself in case I tread on someone’s toes.” Mind you, he did note that “superheroes aren’t really [his] thing.” It’s anyone’s guess.

Bryan Singer is rumored to be in the process of bringing “Battlestar Galatica” to the silver screen for Universal. Singer was attached to a reboot early this decade before September 11 stunted his project’s progress. Since then Ron Moore has developed a critically acclaimed television remake. Wonder what the geeks will think of Singer’s possible reboot which will reportedly draw inspiration from the original series. As for us? Please don’t let this be true, and Singer, please move onto something much more original than a TV show remake, thanks.
