Craig Gillespie Set To Helm DreamWorks’ Remake Of ‘Fright Night’

Craig Gillespie is set to helm a DreamWorks remake of 1985 sleeper hit horror-comedy “Fright Night.”

The helmer reportedly met with the studio along with three other directors but apparently won the race with negotiations already under way for him to take the reign.

The project is definitely as unexpected choice for Gillespie though he’s already shown his versatility with offbeat comedies “Mr. Woodcock,” the underrated “Lars And The Real Girl” and several episodes of the Diablo Cody scribed “The United States Of Tara.” His work on the latter as a producer may very well have tipped this project in his favor with fellow ‘Tara’ producer Steven Spielberg being, of course, the founder and head of DreamWorks.

TIFF ’09 Review: ‘Air Doll’

Hirokazu Kore-eda’s seventh feature is a more sociological and psychological (not to mention fantastical) spin on recent hit “Lars and the Real Girl,” centering on the titular sex toy who, in her words, “found a heart.” What may at first appear to be a slightly bizarre dramedy becomes much more as Koreeda explores his themes. Both whimsical and bleak, “Air Doll” explores the emptiness and disconnect that more and more frequently seem to define our lives in an increasingly globalized and technologically-driven world.

Ryan Gosling To Reteam With ‘Lars And The Real Girl’ Director For HIV Drug Film

Ryan Gosling apparently had a good time working on last year’s overlooked and under-valued indie drama”Lars And The Real Girl,” as he’s set to re-team with the film’s director Craig Gillespie. The duo will be reuniting for the “Dallas Buyers Club” – a true story of Ron Woodroof, a heterosexual, redneck electrician who contracted HIV around 1980. After being told to go home and die, he tested illegal drugs on himself to prolong his life six years and help thousands of people with AIDS.

Lars and the Real Girl (dir. Craig Gillespie. Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer)
This film, about a delusional young man (Ryan Gosling) who adopts an anatomically correct sex doll as a coping mechanism against his social paralysis and the family that tries to help him (Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider), seems to be semi-polarizing to some.
