According to Deadline, Garret Dillahunt is the latest actor to join DC Studios’ upcoming HBO series, “Lanterns.” The series is inspired by the “Green Lantern” DC comics and will tell the story of two Green Lanterns who come to Earth to investigate a crime.

While the search continues for the second lead of the series, it appears “Lanterns” has found one of its directors. 

According to THR, British director James Hawes has been signed on to direct the first two episodes of DC Studios’ upcoming live-action series, “Lanterns.” This news comes on the heels of the recent announcement that Kyle Chandler will be one of the two co-leads of the show, playing veteran Green Lantern, Hal Jordan.

HBO‘s “Lanterns” already found its Hal Jordan in Kyle Chandler, but what about its John Stewart?  Deadline reports that the network has its top choices for the role, and they’re two actors poised for breakouts: Aaron Pierre and Stephan James.  Damson Idris, star of FX‘s “Snowfall,” is another name in the running for the role, but HBO declined any comment on the story.

Well, it’s official, and James Gunn’s DC Studios plan is slowly moving forward. Today, HBO and MAX confirmed that it’s picked up an eight-episode Green Lantern series for a season one pick-up. The series comes from Emmy-nominee Chris Mundy (HBO’s “True Detective: Night Country,” “Ozark”), who will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Emmy-winner Damon Lindelof (HBO’s “Watchmen” and “The Leftovers”) and Eisner Award winner Tom King (“Mister Miracle,” “Supergirl”) will co-write the new series with Mundy.
