This was the journey of Hamilton Chango Harris, who appeared alongside his real-life skater pals in Larry Clark’s 1995 hit, “Kids.” Now, Harris aims to rewrite the narrative of the late Justin Pierce and Harold Hunter with “The Kids,” a documentary that reveals disturbing behind-the-scenes secrets and their aftermath.

A sadly low percentage, however, are any good, which is why this week brings us significant reason to rejoice: First-time filmmaker Kelly Fremon Craig brings us the adorable, sprightly “The Edge Of Seventeen.” In many ways this year’s “The Diary Of A Teenage Girl” in being both the debut of an exciting new female filmmaker and a funny, fresh, newly insightful take on the teen-movie genre, ‘Seventeen’ perhaps does not reinvent the wheel in the way that Marielle Heller‘s film did, but it’s such a bouncy picture, centered around such a tremendously relatable turn from Hailee Steinfeld, that to disparage it as a result would be a little like critiquing a puppy.

Larry Clark has a new movie in the works and it’s not his remake of Neil Jordan’s classic ’80s post-gangster love story, “Mona Lisa” (post-gangster: he’s reformed, not so many bullets in this relationship and class tale, but it’s still great, fyi).

It’s a — SHOCKER — film about teenage disaffected youth. You didn’t see that one coming did you? The director already notoriously well-known for his shocking, yet insightful (“Kids”), sometimes exploitatively skeevy (“Ken Park”) and occasionally optimistic and bright (“Wassup Rockers”) examinations of teenage life has another adolescent tale on tap.
