It really does seem as if the “Blade” film is cursed, right? Something is going on that is preventing the film from moving forward at Marvel Studios. We’ve seen numerous writers come and go, as well as directors. Yet, apparently, it’s still a priority for Marvel. 

According to Omelete (via Deadline), while appearing at the D23 Brazil event, Marvel’s Kevin Feige talked about the current status of the “Blade” film.

“Thunderbolts*” will feature a less well-known Marvel super-team. Unlike the “Avengers” and “Fantastic Four” franchises, which have enjoyed a steady level of popularity in the comic medium for over five decades, giving them a built-in audience for their film adaptations, “Thunderbolts*,” a more obscure Marvel property, will have to win the affection of its audience to some extent upon its theatrical release. While this is not totally unfamiliar territory for Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, having introduced three movie installments of the relatively unpopular “Guardians of the Galaxy” comic series to massive critical acclaim and commercial success in the last decade, it is still a risk that Feige and Marvel are willing to take.

Although it might seem like a no-brainer on the surface, Anthony and Joe Russo directed four super-successful Marvel movies in a row: “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame.” The latter two are among the highest-grossing films of all time.

After a strong late 2023/early 2024 with the animated series, “What If…?,” the live-action series, “Echo” and the adored animated revival, “X-Men: 97,” and the promise of a reduced output, leaving fans wanting more, Marvel only has one film for 2024, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and they seem to be totally ok with that.

Following the failure of “The Marvels” (and the 2023 strikes that delayed everything), Marvel and Kevin Feige have decided not to rush things and release only one movie this year, “Deadpool & Wolverine.” However, the way the movie industry seems to be sitting around waiting for the film makes it feel like Marvel could have easily sustained more than one film in 2024.
