OK, Yellowstoners, we’re catching up on the “Yellowstone” season five part two premiere, which aired late Sunday night on Paramount Network (and wasn’t readily available to watch anywhere if you didn’t catch it that evening; thankfully, Prime sorted me out). Titled “Desire Is All You Need,” episode nine of this two-part season started out a little unceremoniously.

As you all should know by now, “Yellowstone” showrunner/creator writer Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner, who plays the Yellowstone family ranch patriarch, John Dutton, had a major falling out nearly two years ago over scheduling and Costner wanting to take time away from the series to shoot his “Horizon: An American Saga” Western (which tanked at the box office this year despite an enormous cost and substantial personal investment by Costner).

Despite the public fracas between star Kevin Costner and “Yellowstone” writer/creator/sometimes director Taylor Sheridan, the show will have more life to it. However, that wasn’t always the case. Following their public fall-out and the news that its lead star would not return to the hit series, Paramount Network announced that season five of “Yellowstone” would be its last. At the same time, they announced a “Yellowstone ‘24” spin-off, and this was the show that Matthew McConaughey was rumored to star in with some of the “Yellowstone” cast members.

Kevin Costner‘s “Horizon” saga may be on a bit of forced hiatus, but it looks like he’ll have some other work in the interim. Deadline reports that the actor will star in, co-write, and co-produce the upcoming surfer thriller “Headhunters,” the feature directorial debut of “Missing” DP Steven Holleran.  Based on the synopsis, the upcoming film couldn’t be more different than “Horizion”: a lean, mean survivalist drama set in the south Pacific.

No matter what you think about the quality of “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” you can’t deny that it took a lot of courage for Kevin Costner to put up millions of his own money to make the film happen. Unfortunately, that risk hasn’t paid off yet, as the film bombed in theaters and the already-shot sequel was taken off the release calendar. But those setbacks aren’t going to stop Costner from trying to make the next two sequels happen.

As we speak, Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who play Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, are negotiating to return to a surprise season six with the rest of the cast hopefully to return two once those two anchor stars are secured.

Stop the speculation: Kevin Costner‘s time on “Yellowstone” is over. Deadline reports that the actor took to social media to confirm he won’t appear in the final six episodes of Taylor Sheridan‘s hit Paramount Network series.  Costner’s news comes on the heels of the network announcing the premiere date for “Yellowstone” Season 5 Part Two, November 10, with a new teaser yesterday.

CANNES – There is nothing wrong with a three-hour movie. There have been absolute masterworks longer than 180 minutes. It sorta helps, however, if the film is, well, a movie. After watching Kevin Costner’s 181-minute-long “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” we can’t argue its classification as a film, artist’s prerogative, but we’re still not sure it should be constituted as one by anyone else. And that’s for a multitude of reasons.

No, it’s not the 1990s or the early aughts, but Kevin Costner is back in the directing game in a truly big way this year with a two-part film, “Horizon: An American Saga.”  After Oscar glory with “Dances With Wolves,” (seven Oscars include Best Picture and Best Director), Costner stumbled in his career pretty hard, both in directing and otherwise. 1995’s “Waterworld” was a notorious bomb, and then just one year later, 1996’s “The Postman,” his sophomore directorial effort was another flop.

Instead, alleges the actor, he “did negotiate” to return for three more seasons of the show, but left due to scheduling conflicts. Those conflicts eventually led to Sheridan and Paramount announcing the fifth season will be the last one of the original series.
