Hugh Jackman is no stranger to projects that ask him to sing and perform on stage. For his next film, “Song Sung Blue,” he’s bringing Kate Hudson along for the ride.

According to Focus Features, Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are attached to star in a new film, “Song Sung Blue.” The film is based on the true story of a married couple in Milwaukee, who make a name for themselves as the duo “Lightning & Thunder,” a Neil Diamond cover band.

Max Minghella’s “Shell” follows in the grand tradition of lurid comedies, like Robert Zemeckis’ “Death Becomes Her,” which satirizes societal pressures on women to look youthful and vital into the later stages of life. “Shell” is purposefully designed to be campy, silly, fun—mainstream entertainment with topical bite. And Minghella largely succeeds in his admittedly modest ambitions. It’s too bad he’s had his lunch eaten by Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance,” a film with an identical premise and analogous execution but a much higher profile.

TORONTO – When the mobile offshore drilling rig the Deepwater Horizon exploded into flames on April 20, 2010 it resulted in the loss of 11 lives and the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Five years later, BP, which contracted the Deepwater, would spend $18.7 billion in a settlement with the U.S. government and local and state municipalities. The disaster was epic, but also filled with heroic acts, which director Peter Berg chronicles in a movie appropriately named “Deepwater Horizon” which debuted Tuesday night at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

If you haven’t quite found the present that says, “Mom, I hate you for bringing me into the world,” this is the (movie) ticket. Somehow inferior to both its celebratory predecessors “New Year’s Eve” and “Valentine’s Day,” Garry Marshall’s “Mother’s Day” is the cinematic equivalent of spilling boiling hot coffee on your mother when you bring her burnt toast for breakfast in bed.
