There’s the spinoff series, “Gen V,” which season four of “The Boys” picks up from, and there’s also a new Mexico-set version of the series coming from Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal, both of whom will guest star on that spinoff. But the main flagship brand is back with season four.

And much of the surviving characters return in the next film alongside the new incarnation of fan-favorite Johnny Cage, as teased at the end of the first installment. But while there has been some lobbying from fans to see their favorite comedic action stars take a swing at the role, it looks like the studio has finally settled on an actor.

Much like that show, the writers here have added too many characters that they seem unwilling to knock off and are willing to recycle themes even as they raise interesting new ideas on the fringe of their hit show.

Abrams reboot of the “Star Trek” franchise, appeared in multiple “Riddick” installments, found time for a “Bourne” film and dipped his toe in the MCU with “Thor: Ragnarok,” Karl Uban somehow still manages to stay under the radar. And that’s even more surprising as he’s currently at the center of one of the most popular series on streaming television at the moment, Amazon Prime Video’s “The Boys.” Then again, maybe that’s how the New Zealand native likes it.

Back in 2017 it was announced that a TV show based on the comicbook character, titled “Mega-City One” was in the works. Things have been pretty quiet since then, but we now have a big update courtesy of Jason Kingsley, CEO of comics publisher Rebellion (who holds the rights to the character). According to Kingsley, the show is already written and ready to go, but the ongoing pandemic put a hold on things.

Then the ‘80s brought a new era to superhero stories, where creators took risks, aimed stories clearly at adults, and flipped the entire genre on its head. While it took a while for live-action superhero films and TV series to catch up, 2019 was the year we finally saw the tried-and-true superhero formula flipped on its head thanks to series like “Watchmen” and “The Boys.”

While “Watchmen” is still deep into its first season (which is absolutely incredible), “The Boys” wrapped up over the summer and was fast-tracked into Season 2.

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is as ambiguous and rumor mill-worthy as its ever been; the DC brand in 2019 is limited to the upcoming “Joker” and a handful of reliable TV mainstays in “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and others; and the recent cancellation of “Jessica Jones” on Netflix hammered the final nail into the coffin of a relatively short-lived partnership with Marvel.

You can’t watch five seconds of any of the marketing materials, including the most recent, profanity-filled, blood-soaked trailer, without knowing that this new series isn’t interested in playing nice.

And in the new trailer, you get the general premise of “The Boys.” The series follows The Butcher and his group of vigilantes, as they hunt down and murder superheroes.

In this Amazon adaptation of the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic, it happens just minutes into the series premiere, giving our hero a reason to fight and establishing the show’s position on its female characters in a single gory blow. What’s frustrating is that “The Boys” appears to want to do right by its women, but it shows its true colors by treating violence against them as a joke – and not even a particularly funny one – in two scenes in its first episode.

Now, imagine that they were terrible humans and not the heroes we hoped they’d be. That’s where the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, “The Boys,” comes in.

Developed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the guys who adapted another comic book series “Preacher” for AMC, “The Boys” follows a group of vigilantes that know the superteam known as The Seven are just a bunch of horrible fame-seeking celebrities, as we see in the new trailer.

From “The Walking Dead” and “The Flash” to “Daredevil” and “Preacher,” the established comic book fan base has proven itself force

One of these shows, “Preacher,” is one of AMC’s biggest hits.

While Disney cares about their legacy titles, they aren’t precious about them, and instead aim to reach a new generation of viewers with versions of those films, or continued storylines, that have the bells and whistles of contemporary tentpoles. From the outside, it can seem like a soulless enterprise, which makes “Pete’s Dragon” all the more remarkable.

But short of pushing the release date back, which is unlikely this close, it’s going to have to be business as usual for the movie, with a July opening bearing down, and a new trailer for the movie just arrived.

I’d argue there’s nothing across the first film or “Thor: The Dark World” that matches the best moments in either the “Iron Man” or “Captain America” films, but I have to admit, the cast for “Thor: Ragnarok” is looking mighty impressive.

As you might have guessed from our coverage leading up to the film’s release, we were impressed with the trailers for “Red” and were holding out some hope that in a year populated with rag-tag-crew films like “The Losers,” “The A-Team” and “The Expendables” that disappointed, this would be the film that would be late-inning saving grace. Sadly, this is not the case. Based on the DC Comic and directed by Robert Schwentke, “Red” is essentially a more watchable version of “The Expendables” with a better cast, but plagued with the same narrative and tonal problems of Sylvester Stallone’s steroid and testosterone-heavy film.

ComingSoon has dug up a couple more tidbits on the latest attempt to bring the comic Judge Dredd to the big screen. Now simply titled “Dredd,” the film will star Karl Urban as the titular crime fighter with Olivia Thirlby recently joining as Cassandra Anderson, “a telepathic rookie who shadows Dredd.”

Film production company IM Global has posted a vague synopsis of sorts of the film which you can read below:

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth.

Why didn’t Olivia Thrilby break out in 2008 and 2009 when she should have? Probably because she doesn’t have Amber Heard conventional looks (ironically the girl who replaced her in “Pineapple Express”), but whatever, she’s infinitely more interesting (not to mention a helluva better actress).

After a slogging it out in the indie circuit for a few years (excellent turns in “The Wackness,” “Snow Angels” and “Solitary Man” to name a few), perhaps she’s taking a shot at primetime?
