It’s an interesting, sometimes beautiful, film. It’s experimental. Our own review called it “a madman’s fever dream.” But don’t call it woke, according to Coppola himself. He specifically doesn’t want that.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Francis Ford Coppola talked all things “Megalopolis.” And that includes the casting of the film.

The actor recalls, with vivid intensity, the conclusion of principal photography for “Midnight Cowboy,” John Schlesinger’s 1969 film adaptation of James Leo Herlihy’s novel. They were in Texas, he remembers, shooting the opening sequence, when he discovered director Schlesinger crouched on the ground behind a car; he was having what appeared to be a full-on nervous breakdown, convinced they’d made a terrible, embarrassing film.

And that’s not meant as a jab against your intelligence, instead, it speaks volumes about the actual production. Nick Loeb and Cathy Allyn are currently filming “Roe v. The series has consistently added new blood into the mix as a way of keeping things fresh, with Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham among the big-ticket additions to the series, but the upcoming movie comes with something of a credibility boost, with not one but two Oscar-winning actresses getting in on the fun, in the shape of Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren.

Well, not quite, but close enough for fans. One of the most successful and lucrative franchises in Warner Bros. history, it was only a matter of time before they figured out a way back into the wizarding world conjured by J.K. Rowling, and indeed they have with “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.” The first in what WB is confidently planning as a trilogy, they are hoping the globe will once again be eager to explore the world of muggles and more.

However, the actress is blazing a comeback trail. Next month she returns in “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” she’s got the Keanu Reeves legal thriller “The Whole Truth” in the can, and then there’s “Same Kind Of Different As Me,” a syrupy looking drama that appears misguided at best.

Premiering way back in 2006 at the Santa Barbara Film Festival and then dropping off the map, “Who is Harry Nilsson (and Why is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)?” is a music documentary we’ve long been anticipating and now we’ll finally get to see it. The film has finally been acquired, with Lorber Films picking up the rights to the film.

Directed by John Scheinfeld, the film provides the overview of the immensely talented and still undersung singer/songwriter.

“You know what NAACP means, don’t you?”

Damn, this is why the Playlist is in desperate need of a DVD column — consider this an open call for those that are interested — somehow Hal Ashby’s excellent and underseen 1970 debut film, “The Landlord” was finally issued on DVD and no one told us about it (and we honestly don’t remember the usual suspects Jeff Wells or David Kehr writing about it, though yes, we may have missed it).

The director’s cut is a wonderful concept and can be an excellent retroactive tool in cinema, but what happens when you get a director’s cut from an artist in decline? This seems to be the case with the newly released, “Lookin’ To Get Out,” the 1982 Hal Ashby oddball buddy comedy about two New York gamblers on the run in Las Vegas that was barely released and just dumped into theaters by Paramount.

Starring Jon Voight, Ann-Margret and Burt Young, the film was the second film of Ashby’s unfortunate losing streak in the ‘1980s (“Second-Hand Hearts” in ’81 was the first flub), ironic given “Lookin’ To Get Out” — which was co-“written”/improvised by Voight and screenwriter Al Schwartz — was essentially about a gambler down on his luck with one lost shot at redemption.

While we sort of detest random and indiscriminate features that have nothing to do with the daily, weekly or monthly discourse, we did want to steer the conversation back to music. So every week (or so…) we’re going to do a regular feature called, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, where one of our writers is going to discuss an old soundtrack and film, why its great and why you should know it.

The Soundtrack: “Coming Home” (1978) directed by Hal Ashby

The Film: A love triangle representing three different sides of Vietnam: the wheelchair bound veteran turned hippie dissident coping with his paralyzed condition (Jon Voight), the straight-laced Captain looking forward to his first deployment overseas (Bruce Dern) and his innocent homemaker wife (Jane Fonda).

Thanks to Apple.com, we now know about the existence of the new comedy directed by “the master of movie satire” David Zucker, called “An American Carol.”

This laughable waste of filmstock is evidently modern day telling of the classic “A Christmas Carol,” except it lampoons documentary filmmaker Michael Moore. Michael Malone (clever), played by Chris Farley’s brother Kevin, wants to abolish the fourth of July holiday, and apparently he gets visited by country music superstar Trace Atkins, General George Patton, (Kelsey Grammer) and George Washington (Jon Voight).
